A group based in Pennsylvania which calls itself The Evangelical Environmental Network is airing an ad in four states which asks listeners: "what would Jesus drive." The motive of the campaign is to get consumers to buy more fuel efficient vehicles.
About 50% of the vehicles sold in the Unites States are SUVs and average fuel efficiency is down to 20.8 miles a gallon. Rev. Jim Ball who heads the network says that Jesus would pick a car that uses less fuel than a truck which guzzles more.
The Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers states: "People want power. Consumers want power." The Evangelical Environmental Network, however, is making an appeal for the Big 3 Auto makers to consider more hybrid and fuel-cell vehicles.
