What do you think would happen to the US economy if all the illegal immigrants left the country?

I am looking for a estimate of their contribution to the US GNP.

All hell would break loose, many businesses would have a hard time even operating until they found new labor (good luck finding Americans who are willing to pick fields), formerly inexpensive labor would get a lot more expensive when the employers have to hire citizens who demand much higher wages.

"Alll hell would break loose"--America will be totally destroyed. Riot everywhere. Animals start attacking people. Traffic light stop working. Undead rises up from below ground. Dark cloud will cover up cities. Canada will declare war on Alaska.

It'll be the end of human civilization.

I think you are being sarcastic or something, but ntdz is pretty close to the mark. It would definitely cause substantial economic upheaval.

Imagine if you had to pay an English speaking house maid $30,000 a year. My parents had a live in house maid from Mexico and they paid her about $200 - $300 a week. She was legal and had a green card though.

If we assume most immigrants here are from mexico, when they get deported back home there would be a revolution--they won't stand for how things are run down there after tasting it here.

Some areas of the country might actually have to pay people a fair wage to get some work done? Overall for the most part.

1. Some costs will go up.
2. Costs associated with schooling, medical care, and law enforcement, would all see drastic drops

In other words, the benefits outweigh the costs. Send them home, Mexico didn't want them and we should not tolerate a country that purposely helps people enter our country illegally.

A rare time I agree with Shivetya.

One other thing, the Mexican flag car sticker market would completely collapse.

Your grasp of economics is non-existent.

Repeat after me:
There are no jobs that americans don't want.
There are no jobs that americans don't want.
There are no jobs that americans don't want.
There are no jobs that americans don't want.

If you, as an employer, have hard time finding employees, you're simply not paying the market wage.

California has to build 1 school every day of the year to keep up with immigration. Emergency rooms are shutting down because they cannot take the increased load.

Economic upheaval is already beginning to happen as our 1 million legal immigrants and 500 thousand illegal immigrants are both impoverished and a hugely growing demographic in this country. 50 years from now they will be no less than 1 out of every 3 people living in America.

Those living here today will be a minority, thus not in control of, many states.

Have you ever watched the movie "A day without the Mexican" its all based on that fact. A couple of things would happen I think.

1. Business that depend on illegal/legal immigrant work from people who cross the boarder would have a hard time because either they can't find an american to do the same work or they would have to pay americans much more.

2. For the time being it will appear the govt will be doing better because of the removal of such persons. However, it more/less will balance itself out. These people offer bad just as much as they offer good to this country.

1. Americans did that work before the illegals came in and priced them out of the market.

I'm sure that the tens of billions not being sent to Latin America from the US each year by illegals would help to make up the cost difference. Schools/hospitals/jails/welfare would feel the difference when that drain was removed.

You left off 3) Kids could move back inside the school building to learn instead of having class in mobile overflow trailers.

Prove it. All these people are making suppositions like this but it is all just that. . .supposition and heresay. On the other hand, the actual effects of having 12+ Million illegal aliens draining our social services and infrastructure are quite evident, real, and actual.

Your parents are free to move to Mexico. They could afford several servants there. :p

Even if I doubled my income there is no way I would pay someone $1200 a month to clean my house. You could lease a top of the line AMG Mercedes for that much.

Some people might have to cook their own food, mow their own grass, or even <shudder>clean their own pool?

LOL, if I doubled my income I think I could almost afford health insurance. Of course that would be counter productive to the US GNP and we coulnd't have that!!!!

Exactly.
The economy of our country would be just fine.
The like 1% of rich people who are lazy and depend on others to clean all their $hit would be screwed. Here's a newsflash. . .the more stuff you have, the more stuff you have to clean and take care of! If you don't want to clean it, don't buy it!

Yeah I was just making the point that if I were ridiculously high on the hog, I can think of better things to spend my money on.

Things would remain the same, I would still put on my rubber gloves, grab my toilet brush and get to it.
