I don't think MS would be stupid enough to enter the CPU market. Sure, it would make computers much better and more stable since the hardware and software would be built to complement each other, but the CPU market is WAY too competitive and costly. The costs would far outweigh the benefits.

Microsoft has cash to burn and they're always looking for new ventures. I don't think it'll ever happen though.

It would be the death of AMD and give Linux a stronghold of the intel market. MS would eventually sell or kill AMD and go back to supporting intel. I base this on MS focusing on DRM and control, that being the key to screw them over in the long term. Just my opinion. We'll never know because MS won't buy AMD. IBM Maybe, intel maybe, but I highly doubt MS.
