What would cause this... Task bar corruption

I just booted up my PC to this.

Notice my quick launch icons?

In order, from left to right those are SUPPOSED to be:

Show Desktop, IE, Calculator, Notepad, Trillian, and Winamp.

They work correctly, but the icons are wrong.

This is where things get interesting.

If I click on my start menu, the icons for Programs, Documents, Settings, Search, and Help & Support are the icons that are appearing in my quick launch bar - In their order on my start menu. The run icon is not present on my quick launch, though, having been replaced with a notepad looking icon.

Any thoughts on WTF could cause this? This is the second time in two days that this has happened.

Your computer is finally getting back at you for all the porn you surf. :)

You can download a program called Microangelo and force it to rebuild your icon cache. That usually fixed the problem when I had it turn up on machine years ago.

Downloading now, hopefully that'll take care of it...

Last time my desktop had somehow reverted to 256 colors, changing back to 32 bit resolved it.

This time it's running 32 bit but they won't fix themselves.

They're fixed, now hopefully they'll stay that way.

Microangelo looks cool, I'll have to play with it more before the trial runs out.

Thanks.

It is cool, I've used it for years for various reasons. The ability to make custom icons is a big plus.
