What would be the next course of action in this situation?

A local rent-to-own company keeps calling my girlfriend's cell. She has called numerous times telling them they have the wrong number, yet they continue to call and leave messages.

Neither one of us has ever been to the place and when they leave messages they ask for people that we have never heard of. However, after numerous times of being told they have the wrong number, they insist on constantly calling. This weekend alone (Saturday and Sunday) she had ~10 calls from them.

Have your gf call the rent-to-own place and speak with the biggest head honcho you can get - supervisor, manager, etc. Explain the situation and request that they remove her phone number from their database. Tell them that if they continue to call, she'll report them for harrassment.

the company is calling her? if it was the customers of the company, I'd have a few suggestions... 😉

but, I suppose, being in prison and all, your girlfriend's hands are (figuratively) tied behind her back.

Done that twice already. She was on the phone for half an hour with the GM yesterday.

When they call, what are they asking? Is the purpose for the call debt collection, or is it marketing?
They just leave messages saying please call us back at xxx-xxxx. It is definitely not marketing though because they said it is important that they talk to the people named about their account.

Did she just got a cell phone? You'll have to talk to the phone company and get a new number.
Nope. She has had the phone for almost two years now. Right now, I told her to document if they call again. At which time, we will file a police report.

can you put her number on the national do-not-call list? after that, if they call her and you report them won't they get fined?
It is already on the national and Indiana do not call list.

thats weird why would her phone be in their system for various accounts...maybe a software screwup?

keep a list of the names they call for and submit that as proof or have the GM listen to all the messages

Do not call list wouldn't accomplish anything since the person they are trying to reach did business with them.

If you tell them to stop calling, however, they must stop.

Document when you tell them, who you told, etc, then document any further calls.
