oh so i want to upgrade my mb to an nforce 2, and chances are i'm gonna get the epox one

so i'm also going to buy a 512stick of ddr400 (most likely corsair) I WILL BE RUNNING 400FSB

now here is the question

do i A:

buy 2 265mb sticks and run 400fsb and dual channel pc2100

or B:

buy one 512mb stick of ddr 400 and use only one memory bank and run 400fsb/400mem?

i'm going to try and run 200X9 (my chip is now running 166X11.5)

will i see better performance from B since the mem bandwidth perfectly fills the cpu fsb?

high fsb can be done because the board has pci/agp lock, oh yeah and i'm water cooling

well in option a, when you overclock fsb from 133 or 166 to 200 (depending on cpu you choose) your ram will also increase
how well dual channel ddr will overclock im not sure, but if you get brand name ram rated at pc3200cas2 or higher the ram shouldnt be a problem
plus it will run in dual channel mode, so it would be better i would assume, even if you cant get fsb to 200

The ONLY manufacturer that is capable of making the PC3200 RAM is SAMSUNG, and even then it is NOT a recognized or certified standard by the JEDEC -
although Samsung holds a chairmanship position on the board. What you will find is almost all the performance memory vendors are doing are simply
handpicking the chipsets that they are buying from Samsung, and overclocking what they get - mostly Samsung PC2700.

Save yourself the higher cost and agravation by getting the TRUE SAMSUNG which NewEgg is carrying ( DDR400 ) for $ 93 per 256 stick.
very few application need more than 512MB RAM so - 2 x 256 = 512 is what you'll need.

I have found in the past that 2 sticks of RAM usually will outperform one stick of 512 - if you get 1GB, you have bulk/volume over speed.
The RAM speed peak seems to occur at 768MB, this is my experience with my machine, but i'm planning to add another 512 in the furure.

ATTN: THUGSROOK - Can you help us out here with your test stats?

what is the point in running dual channel ddr with an xp, i simply doesn't use the extra bandwidth unless you up the fsb

i would think that running a sync mem/bus would produce the best results.

and i have true samsung pc2700 right now, and its runs great, but 512mb is a must for UT2k3, my computer only has 256 and is constantly swapping with the HD
