I need some help deciding which eval to leave for a trader. Heres the story:

Bought a linksys router from him, and paid him promptly with paypal (like a few mins after we agreed on price). I told him that i needed this asap and made it clear several times during out transaction. I assumed hed ship out monday or tuesday(the deal was made on a sunday). I emailed him later that week and asked for tracking num, etc....and he said he didnt get a chance to ship my goods out yet(but he did ship others out). He promised that he would ship the next day. I wait about another week, still no goods. I email him again and he says he'll ship it out the next day or so. Which he does. Everything is packed fine and he included some small goodies.

I email him to let him know that i wont be able to test it out until my dsl is put in, which it is now. But the router wont power on. So we are currently arranging for the return of it.

Assuming the return goes well, what do you think a fair eval would be? Thanks for any help!

i say give him a bad eval. not only did he ship much later than he said he would, he gave you a defective product.

It sounds like it'd be either a positive or neutral w/ a reason why. Doesn't deserve a negative (assuming the return is taken care of promptly)

I'd give him a neutral, he didn't abide to your terms but if he was friendly and if you get your product, no real harm done.

I would say neutral. He did ship it (late, which is why the neutral) and is agreeing to take it back (which is why not negative)

Just make sure you leave an accurate description so the guy doesn't get totally screwed over. It's not like he took your money and ran, he just took a little too long in shipping.

thats not worthy of a negative. Damages can occur during shipment. Did you insure it?

I would either say positive or neutral. I would wait to evaluate him until the return has gone through and you have your money back. I've had problems getting stuff in the mail before, but two weeks is inexcusable.

I don't understand any of the posts that suggest a positive rating. There are two isssues. This person didn't abide by the terms of the deal you setup. Secondly, the unit didn't work. Most likely the unit not working was not intentional. If he's taking it back, no harm, no foul. But presume it did work, you still have the item not shipped when promised (which can be very frustrating when you need something quickly and do the deal based on that).

IMHO, leaving positive feedback just sets him up to pull the slow shipping on the next guy.

I think everyone is being too kind. I would give him a neutral or a negative.

Here is my reasoning. You cannot fault him for taking a week to ship the item (it sounds like no ship date was agreed on before sending payment). You cannot fault him for sending you a faulty product (give him the benefit of the doubt) especially since he is taking it back.

However, you can fault him on saying he will ship it next day and then taking an extra week to get around to it. Shipping is part of the deal: saying you will ship next day and then taking an extra week is unacceptable (a day or two maybe, but not 7 days). It is like saying you will ship a blue pen and shipping a red one. It is part of the deal and part of the negotiation.

The difference between neutral and negative is your gut feel on the reason why he shipped it late. If you feel he /she made an honest effort to ship the item sooner, then I say neutral. If you think he/she is forgetful or disorganized, then I say negative. In other words, if you think the reason why this person took so long to ship your product will likely affect someone else in the future, then negative. Otherwise, neutral.

i'd like to note that i once received nuetral rating on ebay for a shipment the person wanted sent via media mail. I packed it nicely and ended up getting nuetral because it "took too long because it was packed too well" WTF.

That just proves that the majority of eBay users are idiots.

thanks for the replys so far guys!

Im leaning towards a neutral right now....the only things that are still lingering towards a negative are:

After he promised to ship, if he had something come up, fine, but he should let me know, especially after promising to ship right? I think im just pissed at having to wait so long for it, then the router not working, then having to ship it back again and who knows how long itll take till i get my money back this time?

I feel like i should give him a negative, but neutral sounds more fair. what do you guys think
