What would be done with the prize money?

if TA win's at RC5, what would be done with the prize money? $1000 goes to the team, and $1000 to the individual(unless he/she is part of a mini-team, right?) would it go for advertising for the next project?

just curious 🙂

I do have an idea, but am working on it.

It is about a project started about three years ago at work.
We donate money to an orphanage in Columbia.

I am a member of the board and have a very good relationship with the person that is working on a website for the Employees Federation. The project I'm talking about is directly falling under that Federation.

If we donate the money to that project, I probably can get some advertising space on the website and a little story with it that TA is working on the RC5 project and will donate the money, if won, to the orphanage in Columbia.

That will get us some real exposure to a target audience, that is never targeted before for distributed computing.
If the people willing to give their cpu-cycles to TA, then the chance of getting the $1000 or $2000 is much bigger. A great stimulance to contribute to our effort.

As said, am working on it and will let you know how things work out.

I'm open to suggestions and other ideas, if one comes up.

Please give reactions, positive or negative.

Peter.

Thats a great idea! 🙂 you know, i really should change that "if we win" to "when we win" 😉

<<We donate money to an orphanage in Columbia.>>

😱

I had been thinking about a beer bust/hot tub party.

You are, however, correct. While everyone has their own reasons for doing this (stats, competition, decimation destruction & taking their women) having a decent purpose for the money at the end should be a common motivation for everyone.

JimMC,

I think it will be a virtual party then, since our members are spread around the world. 😛

My intent is to get some promotion for TA in exchange for the posibility of winning some money.
Since the chance of us decyphering the right key is very slim, it will only benefit us.
And be real, $1000 divided by 700 active members is just enough to get one beer. Also someone has to take up the giant task of sending everybody $1.25 (or something similar), not knowing everybody's current email address. That will be an almost impossible task, IMO.

If we win the competition, then we will be forever on the pages of the project 'Enjoy to Pay' as it is called, because some totally unknown people had donated $1000 that was won.
IMO, it will be easier to persuade people to run the client, if you can say that any money won, will be donated to some charity. It will be visible to everyone on the coming website.

Peter.

BTW I know we will be on the pages for a very long time, because first I'm a member of the board and second it is planned that once the website is running, I'm going to maintain it and become it's webmaster. A perfect combination. 😛😛😛

Ya, the plan is that the team's $1000 will go to charity. Most likely, we'll probably have it go to Anand's cancer NPO, since that would maintain the Anandtech feeling.😉 As for the individual, it's up to them, though I highly reccomend a party.😀

The money should go to get the team together fo a LAN party........

🙂

MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooo........................

SpaceWalker, I second that motion. Only because when we play online you've got the ping time advantage on me. I'd like to see just how good some of TA's members are when they no longer have the ping advantage.

When I win 😛, we'll have a LAN party somewhere in Mineapolis, MN. I'll have Welcky, Orange Kid or Wolfie check on getting us a big enough room to host it in. I've got two 8 port switches, and an 8 port hub so I think we can hook up whoever shows up.

I think giving the $1000 to charity is a great idea and a nice additional attractive point for new memebers.

On a separate note, the celebration LAN party will need to held in practically a data-center to connect everyone! But then, think of all the network gear folks have running on their crack racks. If everyone brought a switch who has one we'd be fine. Might have to get a ballroom in a convention center, though! 😎
