What would be better? Radeon 7200 or Phophet 4500?

I have to return my GF3Ti200.. =(

Oh well, it sucked at OCin'

Anyway, I have two options right now. Put back my old Prophet 4500 or slap in the Radeon 7200 that was going to go into my mother's comp. The Radeon 7200, as far as I know, is a regular old Radeon with 64MB SDRAM. I basically only play Counter-Strike and never watch DVDs. Oh, and The Sims.

Opinions? I'd love to see some comparative benchmarks, too. Couldn't find any.

the 7200 is the same speed at the GTS cards, in almost all benchmarks last I've seen.

If the 7200 has SDRAM I'd say put the P 4500 back in. If it's a full Radeon DDR...::shrugs::

Try them both, get latest drivers and run a few benches. I would almost suspect that the Radeon 7200 should be as good if not a bit better than the Kyro II card.

the radeon 7200 is just the SDR radeon, and is much slower than the kyro II. for dvd playback, however, you can't go wrong with a radeon.

There's actually not a whole lot of performance difference between the Radeon SDR and DDR... It's a tough call.
(I can't even use a KyroII because I'm using an intel845 mobo.)
Personally, I'd go with the Radeon just because I've read more driver problems regarding the KyroII. Of course, I'd probably be happy with either one of them. More developers have the ATI Radeon in mind because more of them exist out there.
I'm not saying I dislike the KyroII, I'd just go with the Radeon 7200 so long as there's no drop in performance (and you might see an increase in some games that don't use the KyroII the way it should.)

The reason you've heard about more driver related problems with the Kyro 2 than the Radeon is partly because of the unique architecture of tile based rendering but mostly because the Radeon is much much older. Remember that the Radeon was released in 2000 so ofcourse the drivers are more mature it's only to be expected. PowerVR have been working very hard since day one and they have got the Kyro 2 drivers stable for 99% of users and in such a short space of time too, their dedication is impressive.

As for which is faster, the Kyro 2 would be faster in MOST games than any Radeon with SDR memory!

Glad to hear some people saying drivers have improved. KyroII cards are still a minority out there so I hope they don't get orphaned.
I've never knocked 'em... although I wish they designed them to be truly AGP 4x to work in an i845 motherboard.... they're quite inexpensive (same price as a 7200 retail.)
I would give the speed edge to the KyroII, provided it works properly.
Time to see if there's any updated KyroII reviews... maybe Anandtech should revisit the KyroII? ;)
