What would be a worthwhile upgrade?

Anything above a x1600 or 7600GS with your cpu. The X2 will preform well with any of the current gpu's on the market.
Whats your price range and game selection like?

AGP?
7800GS, X1950Pro.

Those are the only things I see upgrading over your X800XL.

A X1600 or 7600GS will most likely perform the same or worse then you current setup IIRC.

A X1950Pro would be a worthwile upgrade... then again, a 8800GTX would be a worthwhile upgrade if you had the cash 😛

both 1600 and 7600 will be an undergrade or atmost similar performance.

consider atleast 1800xl or 7800gt and preferably 1900xt or up

Depends on how long you plan on keeping the rest of your rig.

If you plan on keeping it a year or two, just get an 8800GTS.

Does anyone know what the quietest manufacturer will be? I have a fanless model now and it doesn't get overly hot. I would like to run my side fan to help out with cooling but with the fanless models it sticks out too far and interfers with the fan so I can't use it. The models with fans will be easier to fit. Any ideas? Thanks.

I think I am going to go with a 7900 or 7950 GT. I know they all are comparable but I would like to know if anyone here has any expertise on which ones don't whine like babies and are quieter than others? Anyone?????

So I have heard from many that leadtek makes a pretty quiet one but at newegg they are out right now. Does anyone know about xfx?

Yeah, the X800XL performs like a 6800GT. So a good upgrade is going beyond the 7800/7900 series, or X1800/X1900 series. The X1650XT or the 7600GT are a bit faster, but not enough to justify the money spent.

I would have gone with the 8800 GTS, in fact I did when my X800 XL died 2 weeks ago. You spend like 100-150$ more than for a X1900 XT or the like but it's gonna last you quite a bit longer than one of those.

I see these for around 400 bucks when all is said and done. I got my 7900GS for less than 145 with rebate. The 8800 is not that much better. I will wait for a while until the price comes down. You can only get so much better of a picture and your screen can only go so high. The frame rate may be better but for what I am going to use it for` I've got all I need.
