What would be a nice pen?

Trying to buy a nice pen as a gift, any suggestions? Mont Blanc pens are a tad too expensive for me, the budget is around $60ish, no more than $90. I was considering something like this

it would be so tacky showing up anywhere with those gold pens, which is why I want to find one that will actually be used.

I have a waterford, It's not super nice but it's nice enough that I wouldn't use it to take notes in a class (ball point).

They fit into my front pockets nicely without stabbing, and are small enough and shaped appropriately so that you don't feel it in your pocket.

Maybe it's due to not being a corporate bigwig, but I never understood the hype behind those "fancy" pens (fancy being anything priced over $5 for just 1 pen) when Bic works just as well if not better?

The smoothest pen, at an affordable pricepoint, is the Waterman Phileas (its a fountain pen). i wouldnt buy an expense ballpoint out of principal... kinda like an expensive quartz watch

lol, you are in a whole different world then me. If someone bought me a pen for a gift I'd ask them to return it. My uncle bought me a $300 watch and I did the same thing.

A good pen will be noticably smoother, more consistent, and more pleasant to write with than the $1/20 Bics. There is a difference.

However, the ultra-mega-shiny pens are usually a bad deal. It's like most products: the very low end is fine enough, the high end is radically overpriced, but there is a happy middle in there somewhere.

FWIW my everyday pen is a Cross Ion ($20ish) that is very pocketable. And that I got for free.
