What would be a good travel companion? [Update]

what would be a good laptop~netbook companion for traveling between $300-500?

Small, lightweight, battery power.

Bought the Toshiba Netbook for $299 and it was the worst piece of trash that I ever lay my hands on.

Web browsing was slow as hell, and it crashed the minute I try MSN Messenger, and I couldn't power it off.

It ran for several hours even after I close the lid, and hold down the power button. The fan run at top speed and vibrates the entire netbook.

I returned while the thing still running (should have seen the perturb look on the kid at the customer service desk at best buy).

I ended up with the nicely crafted Acer Aspire Quadro 5552G (quad cores, 6GB ram, and Radeon HD6650M). It is about 2X heavier than the netbook, and twice the price at $629. However, the keypad was a joy to use, and it is screaming fast (quickest laptop that I have use). The video quality is surprisingly good for a laptop, the 1.3mp built in webcam worked flawlessly.

The only gripe that have is the speaker and microphone quality is lousy (wasn't any where as good as the Toshiba netbook).

I have the ipad 2. Would NOT want for traveling. I would want a netbook, cuz it does more for less.
Would also take a 3g modem if I knew I could use it.

And you're the same guy that can't even figure out how to use an iphone.

edit - from the iPad2 thread, you still haven't received it yet.

No I did. Made a new thread in Apple.
And we already had the iphone 4 conversation. You fan boys couldnt fix my problem and you love apple products.
What does that say about you?

Why is the iPad even being considered? A tablet sounds overly useless for this.

What would you like to do with this device?

What kind of needs do you require? Basic web browsing? A place to dump & edit digital pictures? Type up long emails?

And haven't even opened it. I couldn't fix your problems b/c I didn't want to try but I did give you a suggestion, where I was able to resolve any of my issues.

I got the Acer Aspire Quadro 5552G for traveling. It is a bit large for my liking, and I have to get a new carry on bag for it. However, it is a great computer.
