What would be a good PC shooter to get into?

I have no PC games except for Counter strike.

I already have CoD4 for 360

I'm thinking maybe TF2? What games are going to be coming out in the next couple of weeks? Only one I see is Front Lines fuel of war which seemed meh in the demo I played.

Well if you could be more specific about what you don't like about CS:S we might be able to recommend some others for you. TF2 is fantastic though. You might want to try renting the orange box for the 360 to see if you like the core gameplay enough to buy it on the PC. It's pretty much the same game except you have more folks on the PC and of course different control style :)

I've played Orange Box on 360 already. I played TF2 for like 1 hour. I didn't play it long enough to really form an opinion of it. I didn't really enjoy it that much though. Kinda confused at first.

I didn't like how in CS it just felt so weird. Like me and a guy can be in a hallway. I shoot my ak at him, the full clip and I die. I
The hit detection just seemed kinda weird at other times also.

TF2 is great and there are quite a few of us ATers on at any given time, just join the AT Steam group and come play with us!

Do you like CoD4 mp? I'm not a huge fan, so I'll probably be giving it away once I have the SP beaten, but if you like it maybe it will help to narrow down the recommendations.

Fast paced game but not to fast, fun.

BF2 for modern combat, BF2142 for future combat. I love 2142, plus they're probably $20 each.

TF2 .
Don't compare the xbox experience with the pc version.
It really is a lot different on the pc.

In CS it takes a long time to learn how to burst properly. If you just spray your whole clip you're not going to hit anything.

No matter what online shooter you play though, you're gonna have to go through a period of being a n00b and dieing a lot.

It takes awhile to really learn how to play CS.

I'd recommend TF2. The PC is much better than the 360 version. I could aim to save my life in the 360 version.

There are no FPS games worth playing that have any community out right now.

Q3/UT2k4 were your best bets but they are dead in NA because they require skill to play.

All that is left is the slew of low-damage/low skill random bullshit of CS/CoD/TF/BF

Another vote for TF2, can be played casually or can get very intense when you have good teammates.

I guess I'll get TF2. Should I get the package with Garry's mod? $34.95
Has anyone played FrontLines Fuel of war yet? How do you guys feel about it?

I'm kinda hesitant about getting a pc game though because I don't have any friends who play any pc games. Seems like it'd be boring playing by myself.

Yup. BF2.

It's a must if you play shooters on the PC...

64 players on 1 huge map and gameplay you won't find on a console..... so fun.

I have no friends that play games on their PC and it never gets boring. When you load up your game and search for a server and see that there are thousands upon thousands of people to play with, who needs friends lol. There is always going to be someone to play with at any time of the day.

In CS it takes a long time to learn how to burst properly. If you just spray your whole clip you're not going to hit anything.

No matter what online shooter you play though, you're gonna have to go through a period of being a n00b and dieing a lot.

when youre in a firefight burst fire is key as was pointed out. for the m4 3 burst fire while slightly pulling your mouse down will be more accruate than "spray and pray" even more so for the ak which is most accurate with a burst fire of two shots. when you spray any enemy, you can still guide yout crosshairs towards your enemy which usually results in a headshot. (of course if your opponent was calmer and remembered to burst fire first then you prbably would be dead very quickly :)

as for the hit detection, you're probably not registering properly in the server, so a few commands to help you out woul]d be such:

open the developers console by hitting the ~ key and type in each command

rate 9999
cl_updaterate 50
cl_cmdrate 50
cl_rate 9999
net_graph 3 ---> this allows you to see how well your packets are entereing and leaving the server. when you choke, try raising or lowering your rates until you are getting near 0 choke. if youre getting packet loss then that has to do with the connection to the server and there's not much you can do ab out that but try to go to another server.

cl_rate and rate are pretty much the same so this is your choice. but add each command individually. play with the rates to see what gets you the best registry when shooting your opponent.

as for another fps nomination, i really like tf2 as well as COD4 so it's a toss up.

i hope this helps.
