What would be a good dog for this situation. . .

Needs to be really small dog that can walk alot. . . Want to be able to put a leash on the dog and it be a walking companion. . .


When I say really small, I don't mean tiny. . . but something that isn't awkard at walking. . . Any good recs?

Need more info about your apartment/house, are you going to kennel it, do you have a kid, etc.

Plan on building a dog house.

Live in a place where it never really gets cold.

It will get hot, so a long haired dog would be impractical.

Have a teenager who isn't hyper. . .

It's called a Miniature Pinscher and they are not related to dobermans. They would be good for long walks but are hyper. Note, most active small dogs will be hyper.

Would a rat terrier be a digger (as in get out of the fence dog). . .?

I've shied away from terriers because I've heard they are quite proficient at getting out of fences, of course I have no experience.

Are they active enough to walk an hour or so every day with me?

If you can afford them, Bichon Frise, or MaltiPoo's are very energetic and playful... I had one years ago, and we would take it for walks for hours, and that damn dog would never get tired.

The dont dig much from the ones I have owned in the past(I have had 4). With fences, you just have to make sure the space between the boards or rods is small enough so the rat cant squeeze between them.

I never trained my dogs to not run away but rat's are very easy to train to do stuff.


These dogs are also full of energy. My current rat is 10years old and he loves taking hour or so long walks until I get tired. They will need some toys to play with to get rid of some of their energy though.

They also react to your actions pretty well. If you are mad they will hide and if you are excited they will want to play.

poodles are smart and there are small breeds. mini dachushunds are good too, but a bit stubborn. a lot of smaller dogs are stupid/stubborn so be careful and do research. i would say a smaller poodle would be good. but not a teacup hand sized one. fucking dumb as a bag of bricks

Every rat terrier I have seen was super annoying.

That totally depends on how they are raised. Some of them are also bipolar. Thank god my current one is pretty quite and not too annoying.
