What would a good first date be?

So I am probably going to ask a girl that I am interested in out on a date. I don't know if she will say yes or no, but I would like to have a game plan going just in case she asks what we would be going to do. NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU ASK, NO PICS.

She is funny and incredibly smart (EE and now law school). She likes to run. She is not shy, but she seems to enjoy small groups (not large parties). She has taken a ballroom dance class in college.

Anyone in Houston, suggestions appreciated. Vulgarity is definitely NOT appreciated. Even if she says she isn't interested, I still respect her.

I did the cheesy Disney one last night (Cars), it went as well as I could have asked for. But then I'm playing on a different field than most other people here so you may not have such great success with it. We also did a version of the stroll, we walked across the Purple People bridge here in Cincinnati.

we're on atot, that kind of stuff is unavoidable. if you want answers without that stuff you might want to ask on the martha stewart forums.

dinner and something else would be nice, even if it is just a walk around the park or something. most people say no movie because you're attention is on that and not on each other. i guess that might be good if the date isn't going too well, but you're trying to get to know each other, thats not so good an idea.

oh... you got some GREAT ideas!
Personally, i would LOVE the salsa lesson or the outdoor theatre OR the museum.
If it was a nice summer evening, i would chose Caremn. If it was cool or too hot, the museum or dancing.

but based on what you posted, i would ask her if she wanted to help you learn how to dance. say you have been wanting to learn to salsa and since she knew a little bit about dancing if she would come with you to the class then maybe get a cup of coffee!

The problem with a movie is you dont get a chance to get to know each other since your are in a movie theatre the entire time.

;) Yeah, I know. But I haven't been getting much sleep lately because of this. There are some mitigating circumstances that have been making me think about it a lot.

One being, a friend of mine is also interested in her. I have already manned up and talked to him to see that we would be cool even if I pursued it, but I think it may affect how we interact. :(

Another being, I have been so out of the dating scene that I am a little nervous to even ask (I didn't have too much experience before, but I have a lot of good close friends, some of who are girls so I know how to talk to girls without being to socially awkward now). I basically put myself on a singlehood sabbatical for a while because of the complications that are involved in a relationship, but this girl has made me kind of rethink this. We seem to mesh pretty well.

Bowling the best first date, you get some beers to ease the tention, and its really is to talk during bowling, and when there's an akward break during a convo you pick your ball and roll - and then make some smart ass comment about your strike\gutter ball....

And if things go really well make a bet that if you win you get a kiss or something....

I wouldnt do that for a blind date, if you dont know the girl, go get coffee or something first.

Oh believe me, I have been on a blind date... I was too young and it was a disaster. I was a clumsy and tongue tied oaf.

The only reason I am even considering asking her out is because it felt so natural talking to her. Even more so then other girls I know which is really weird. It takes me a long time to usually get interested in a girl (I can count only 3 girls I have been interested in the past with and it took me a while to really get interested in the first place). With this girl, we seemed to just click. I ended up going for a jog on the beach when I went with my friends, and we eneded up walking back and talking the whole time (no awkwardness at all).

Whatever you do, dont plan on doing the dinner/movie thing. You need to do somethig interactive. Ice Skating is a good first date because it takes the full concentration off of each other, yet you're still laughing at yourselves and having a good time with each other. I doubt there are skating rinks in Houston at this time. But something like that. Thats why I said fishing, because it's an interesting date, it could be fun, and you have time to talk in a relaxed environment.

Ice skating is win-win.
If you suck she'll see you have a weak side and you can have a laugh, if you are awesome you can help her out. :)
Plus it's fairly relaxed. Or if you are both competetive you can have fun.

Is ice-skating really such a good first date? I'm seeing myself in this position sometime down the road, but I'm not sure how well it would work out. I barely even KNOW how to ice-skate...

When I ask her out, if she agrees, I am leaning towards ICE SKATING. ;)

My neice's birthday party is in September. Bringing her along as a guest or not a good idea? Of course I would clear it with my sister first. Although dealing with my folks and their incessant badgering about dating again might be tiresome.
