Question What would a cause a new HDD to go click click

As well as the clicking noises it isn't showing up in the bios.
If it had been bumped in delivery and had a mechanical failure wouldn't it still show up?

Not necessarily. If it can't initialize (Remember, parts of the firmware for the drive, reside on "hidden sectors" on the service platter), then it's not going to respond to an ATA Drive Identify command from the Host.

Just RMA it or trash it, it's toast.
