I'll add other answers upon request, so don't vote if you don't see your pick.

If you vote US, what appellation is your usual pick?

Since I'm living in the Seattle area right now, I tend to buy more WA wines than I usually would. I like the Chelan area wines FAR more than the Yakima crap.

I'm originally from Sonoma and Mendocino counties, so I like to buy from those areas, especially Mendocino, to support the economies down there. Plus they make great wine. :)

I don't drink, but if I were to start, I'd have to try some local (MS/LA) muscadine wine. I don't know if that counts or not.

I like Llano Blush (Texas wine). Cheap and tasty :)
But then I'm not a wine snob either.

Australia added - sorry I forgot that one! I haven't tried much of the Australian wine at this point. In the Northwest, they've mostly imported cheap Shiraz so far.

What are some recommendations I might be able to get my hands on here in Washington? I LOVE Italian varietals, but mostly I buy California-grown versions.

Wife and I are big fans of many Oregon based Pinot Noirs.

germany... reisling ftw.

it sounds crazy, but I find reisling goes really well with spicey foods, which I eat a lot.

I live on the west coast, so I drink west coast wines the most often. Oregon pinots, Washington merlots, California cabs and chards, etc.

United States primarily, but also some Italian on occation.

Buena Vista EVS rocks my world, along with their Pino Gris. Also, we have some local wineries down here in SW Florida that make some excellent wine from other fruits.

Sweet wines typically do. They cut the heat of the spicy foods. Reisling, Auslese, Spatlese, and Gewürztraminer are all sweet wines that pair up well to spicy dishes.

Having studied in France for a semester and taken a short wine tasting course, I am definitely partial to French wines. However, there are some amazing German ones, and Napa Valley consistently turns out some great CA wines.

Not crazy at all!

Spicy dishes in particular are complemented by the refreshing crisp sweet of this Riesling. It is also delicious by itself, as a refreshing aperitif, with fruit and soft cheeses.

Australian is nice, but I am not an avid wine drinker. I like what I like and I will try any variety, and I love pairing wines with my food, but otherwise, I only drink on occassion.

Chateau Wiz MotorCity USA. 2006 was a good year :D
we have been making our own wine so that is what we drink... gallons and gallons of it.
It has been getting better and better too.
Next we are going to try and make an ice wine.

Other than that... Germany. We like Reisling. :)
