What? I've never heard this before:

It's on the internet so has to be true!

I suspect all he really means is, the first moment some update is released, it can't possibly be uploaded to everyone simultaneously, would take too much server and bandwidth.

If I even have updates enabled, the last thing I want is to get it first and be the beta tester.

Plus how are they going to spy on you if you disconnect? 😉

It could very well be true for some end users. Depends on one's connection speed & what version of windows they are installing, that is with regards to 10 at least.
