What WINDOWS laptop should I get?

I have a very good desktop for gaming, so this would be primarily for portable use in word processing and browsing the web. However, it should be capable of playing at least a few semi-modern games.

It should also be carriable. Wireless is good, as is a DVD burner. I don't care much about fashion. Wide screen is also a plus.

I'm thinking along the lines of the VAIO VGN-FJ290, the Dell Inspiron E1505/E1705 (depending on weight), or the like.

What say ye?

How much money do you want to spend?

Some good ones to look at might be the Asus A8Jc and A8Jm. Both are 14" WS Core Duo notebooks with GeForce Go 7300 and 7600 video cards (respectively). I'd really recommend Asus because they have a reputation for building very high quality laptops, whereas Sony and Dell both have rather iffy records in comparison.

If I cancel my Thinkpad T60 order, I may get the ASUS W3J. I'm actually considering it as a second machine; maybe I'll let the wife use the Thinkpad and carry the ASUS to school. We are rearranging stuff in our apartment and want to get rid of our two workstations. The W3J looks plenty powerful for anything I'd need to do, and it's still fairly portable. I'm not in love with the keyboard layout or the fact that it's widescreen, but I can adapt.

I have a very low opinion of Sonys, due to experiences of people I've known. They may have changed, but the ones I've seen have fallen apart, and Sony is not renowned for their tech support. (Not to mention that they are an evil empire, not above things like installing a rootkit on your machine when you play an audio CD.)

My friends have had good experiences with Sony... their MP3 players' screens broke (their fault... don't chuck the case you keep your player in around), and Sony fixed them basically for S&H.

Also, for that matter, couldn't you call Microsoft in general an evil empire for things like their support of Palladium? And yet I (and most technically-inclined people I know) still use Windows pretty much exclusively.
