What will WE be remembered for?

In another thread (on the CSA flag), there was a lot of name calling and pointing at past generations and the bad things they did that were beyond understanding. This gave me some cause for thought (I'm not a true blond), and I believe that EVERY generation is looked upon as having some great societal sin.

In that other thread there was much ado about the sins of the South. I'm sure that those in the South at the time really didn't see much wrong with it all. The South in the War thought they were on the side of right. When the US detained Japanese Americans in WWII we thought we were right. When Georgians marched all the Indians to Oklahoma they thought they were right.

What are future generations going to say about us?

To answer, I think we should consider issues under the assumption that WHAT IF one side is right.

Abortion. I am not for a ban, but what if the anti-abortion guys are right. We might have to answer to our grandkids as to why we allowed the murder of millions of babies.

Gun Control. I'm a shooter. But if the anti-gunners are right, we might have to ask why we didn't get rid of guns so the steets would be safe.

And so on. Don't really want to debate these issues, but What if.....

Maybe we shouldn't be so hard on those who didn't have the enlightened society we currently have.

the largest sin being committed these days, is committed on a wide and horrifying scale, every day, to millions of innocent children.

bad parenting.

Dear Sarah,
You are so right dear girl.

During the fight over segregation, I vigorously fought on the losing side. I STILL think that we were right, and that is confirmed to me every time I go to town.

That being said, my side did a lot of wrong things. We felt that a good society was at stake. And we were right. That society is all but gone. Many will say good riddance, but to them I say that you have no idea how good it was -- for me and mine anyway. I don?t really know how bad it was for others before the trouble began.

I know that it wasn't perfect, but it was better in almost every way that counts. Maybe one day we will be able to put it all behind us. I think it'll take my generation dying off. There are too many of us good-ol-boys and too many of the neo-communist black activist still around. It is my hope that my grandkids generation (you and yours) will get it right after we are all gone.

God love you.

Destroying the environment and wasting irreplaceable resources.

Right now corporations are doing exactly what the tobacco companies did for decades, except instead of arguing there is "solid proof" of smoking causing cancer they're saying there's no proof of global warming, of pollutants killing off sea life (and causing diseases in humans) etc. etc. Just like big tobacco they've done a good job of paying off congress, senate, and the president to look the other way.

I think in as little as a decade from now we'll look back at the damage and really wish we'd paid more attention to the long-term costs of not recycling and not demanding more conservation and energy efficiency (which done right also reduces pollution).

I'm curious, explain how this is confirmed every time you go to town.

I agree with the bad parenting concept. So many people got married and have kids simply because it was expected and " the next thing to do" . And so many of these so called parents are still growing up them selves. And now they have the additional financial and emotional burden of child rearing. Clearly a reciep for social disaster.

What will WE be remembered for? Considering that msot of the people on this board are between 16 and 25, probably something we haven't done yet.
