What will I need for the 2.6ghz OC to 4.1? Is that pretty good?

Hey, It's been about 3 years since I've built a pc. So I'm really outa the loop. But I saw the article on the 2.6ghz oc to 4.1ghz. I really liked that. And what things (memory (idk what kind), motherboard(i like asus), cooling) would I have to have? I want to get liquid cooling, a GOOD one. I've read up on the processor and saw it uses a lot of power, I dont really care about that. But I'm really excited about setting everything up.

THANKS!!

ps: I know the dual core's have come out since then. And and next month the conroe's come out. But I can't wait a month for school reasons. I'm thinking I'll upgrade again next year (just my cpu)

I assume you mean the Pentium D 805. Well good luck getting it to 4.1ghz, if your're getting water cooling it shouldnt be to diificult, just make sure you get a 975X chipset mobo, itll be compatible with conore for when you decide to upgrade.

For the record the P-D 805 is a dual core CPU, and itll get spanked by the conroes next month.

NF4 boards will not work with Conroe. The only current motherboard that is known to work is the Intel 975X badaxe motherboard, but it's not exactly the greatest for overclocking. The 2.66ghz at 4.1ghz you are refering to was a pentium-d 805, and they used water cooling and dangerously high voltage to get it there. You are basicly buying water cooling and an expesive motherboard for an overclock that isn't guranteed, that if you get that high, you will be performing about the same as an X2 overclocked to about 2.5ghz which can be done on the stock heatsink on an inexpensive motherboard. My 805 is hitting 57c on water cooling, and isn't stable past 3.7ghz, and comes no where near close to the performance of my X2 @2.618ghz. You also need a very strong power supply for the 805 as well.

Okay. So I think I'm getting a new motherboard for the conroe after it comes out next year. But for now. Which motherboard would help me get to 4.1? Would any of those asus ones work? Would the nf4 work well?

And thanks.

Stevty is right, listen to him. What hes saying basically is that this is a bad idea. You dont wanna do what toms hardware did, its not a good chip.

I am at 3.7ghz on my NF4 chipset board. The Asus P5WD2 premium, or P5WD2-E premium would be best. Make sure to get at least a solid name brand 500w PSU. And don't be too suprised if you can't hit 4.1ghz.
