What will happen to SETI once we find alien life?

Will it carry on looking for other alien civilizations?....will they try and persuade the civilization we contact to run it on their "computers" or equivalents....:D

I was just thinking....people often assume that alien civilizations will be more advanced...what if they are a few hundred years behind us?

What if aliens communicate in whole different ways then we? Maybe they don't even communicate..
But even if we do find signals from aliens the time it needed to travell to us is so huge it could take thousands of years before we could say something back.. And btw, if we want to contact them, they also need to have some kind of Seti project going on so running our client on their computers won't happen ;) Maybe they even force us to use their clients! :Q

I think the most people are having a wrong view on aliens.. They can be anything you can think of.. Maybe we aren't seeing them, maybe planets are aliens dancing around the most pretty one... Maybe every star is the core of an atom and the planets are the electrons... So that the whole universe belongs to a single molecule or organism..
Who knows.... ;)

and maybe computer geeks and nerds will be revered and idolized by the alien females......

And what if they are behind us in development? Will we proceed as in Star Trek and initiate a "Prime Directive", or will we exploit them for their resources?

Or maybe they will be like the Xeelee or Qax and try to dominate and eliminate the human race, so that there are only remnants of humanity left in this galazy. Or maybe they are like the shadows, and live in a different quantum reality......

Or maybe they are just a bunch of Homers. DOH!

:D

What if they transmit "Hi, we'll be in your sector soon, roll out the welcome mat!" then when they get here promise to bring a golden age to humanity, but carry around a book titled "To Serve Man" ;) or we find out our overlords are robots like Gort who can obliterate our planet if we don't behave  or they're just intergalatic locust, or horndogs who want our women, or idiots who travel in big eggs, or intergalactic vampires who will swallow our souls, or that they are intergalatic Johnny Appleseeds who've seeded many worlds during their travels, or that the devil is an alien monster and jesus was too and was here to warn us about his coming, or that They Live and are already here broadcasting a signal that hypnotizes us and they are our masters and we their unknowing slaves, or they're whale like creatures who will get wicked mad when they discover what we've done to their long lost cousins, or they're missionaries bringing their gospel to us savages, or they're just dropping in for a week of "trophy hunting" or they're warmongering felines who fight everyone they meet, or a silicon based lifeform who come to liberate our machines, or aliens using our machines to kill us so they can move in, or Amazons who will use men for breeding :D or, well........you get the point ;)

well think about this, 2 years ago, the first radio signals from the fisrt episode of the I Love Lucy show had just reached alpa centari, the star closest to sol(our sun), maybe in a few hundred more years, some alien will see that signal and figure out how it's supposed to be decoded and go.

What tha?

just a thought :)

And some say I have no life...

Me thinks that several folks here have been watching entirely too much TV for WAY TOO LONG!

If you'd like, I can give a quick synopsis of a couple hundred sci-fi books, novellas, and short stories. BTW, your sarcasm detector needs adjusting

If they are out there, and SETI finds them, then they have been broadcasting something into space, for years, thousands, even millions of years before the signal would be picked up by us. I think it is safe to assume that they will be more advanced than us since they have been transmiting for so long.

just my 2 cents.

A valid point.....I reckon they must be so far away that even having technology thousands of years beyond us they are not able to reach us yet....or maybe they don't want to....or are unaware of us...
