I am thinking he grabbed the wrong tube, and by the time he noticed, it was too late to do anything.
Could have still recovered from this with acetone though... not sure why they just twisted it off.
At least they are only under $300, could have been worse.

He bought both regular and adhesive arctic silver 5. He was replacing the heatsink with a custom one and had to remove the heatsink's pre-applied stuff for some reason (mis mount?) and ended up using the adhesive arctic silver stuff.

Isn't that a 2-part adhesive? I don't think that's very easy to apply by accident.
