What will happen if I do this for my RAID setup....?

What if I pair an WD 80GB SE (8MB cache) with another WD 80GB 2MB cache? Will the SE run on 2MB cache since it has to condescend to the 2MB cache drive for the RAID?

no it will use the 8MB of the drive. I don't believe the cache size is affect by raid, but the performance of your raid setup my be funky or unreliable. It is best to match the drives has closely has possible.

YMMV with this one...

With IDE RAID, your drives should be as close to IDENTICAL as possible...

Same firmware revision, size, etc.

Any differences in caching algorithms can (and usually will) result in erratic performance and/or data loss!
