I want my next upgrade to be to a decent 5.1 speaker system with and Audigy 2. That will probably be $100 or less for speakers and $70 for the Audigy 2.

Another upgrade I want is for a SCSI 15,000 RPM drive from Seagate. I'm actually debating on that because 2 Raptors in a Raid 0 configuration is going to be faster and cheaper since I won't have to buy a controller card for it and since its cheaper with drives alone... in fact its $100 more without a controller card and thats with half the space! I wonder when Maxtor and Seagate will be showing their SATA 10,000 RPM drives... I'm also wondering when they will start using a 16mb cache

My next upgrade is going to be either of those two upgrades and I feel my dad is going to be less inclined to get me the Raptors since I have a 120GB JB drive right now and I don't think he'll want to spend $260 around Christmas. Wanna know my plan? I'm probably going to ask for the speakers on Christmas because I can get the Logitech Z640 5.1 Speaker setup for $65 and an Audigy 2 will probably be around $70 by the time so its only $135

512MB -> 768MB PC2100 RAM
Samsung 955DF -> Samsung 172T (or 192T if I can find it)
GeForce2 Pro -> ATI 9800 Pro

This fall I'll be getting a new video card, maybe a 9800 non-pro, or a 9800 Pro if prices drop enough by then. Or a FX5900 Ultra if prices drop enough.
I'm tempted to get a Raptor or two as well.

Maybe a DVD-burner; my parents said they may get me one for my birthday or Christmas this year. Other than that, my current system is pretty decked out (check out the Bebop rig in my signature), so the next upgrade is a major overhaul: 2.6GHz or faster processor, new video card, more & faster RAM, possibly a Raptor HDD (boards should have native SATA by then), etc.That said, I may fudge on one of my big rules a little - not replacing the processor unless I can come close to doubling the speed - if I can get an Opteron or Athlon64 at a decent price.

Irregardless, this overhaul won't happen for a while. There's just too much new stuff coming down the pipe - new sockets & processors for both Intel & AMD, PCI-X and/or Express (what's the difference, anyway?), native SATA, etc - for me to justify upgrading right now. Besides, I can't afford it right now. :p

next upgrade will be P4 or P5 as I'm seating on a P4 1.6Ghz I'm in no hurry of upgrade. As my 1.6 can handle anything I throw at it.

Heh, NTB said "irregardless." Anyway, I plan to go from 256 mb pc2100 to 512 mb pc3200/pc3500 whenever I can scrape the money together. I'll also get a new heatsink (Zalman CNPS7000-Cu maybe) and overclock this 2.4B I have now.

DVD burner, within the next month

I'm going to wait till next year for a dvd burner because I want to see some faster speeds and possibly the blue ray technology which should also help drop prices on current DVD burners, or I may just get blue ray

Well I just built a completely new rig, so it will be a while, but.......

A DVD-Burner most likely. But the burn speeds are still too damn slow it seems. I mean it took 5 years untill we hit 2X drives (I think?), I'd like to wait untill they hit like 16X or so but, god, how long will that take.

Then after that, most likely I'll get a LCD monitor. I want to wait untill the response time is on par, or even better to watch video and play games compared to CRT's

Finally, I'd like to get a system that has PCI-X/PXI-Express & Next year's Socket 775 Prescott CPU. But since I just put together a whole new P4c System and spent about $2K, I really dont think I'd be getting 'new guts' (MB/CPU/RAM) for my pc for at least 2 or 3 years.

And those will be my next major upgrades......

Since I just upgraded to a Shuttle AN35N, XP1700+ T-Bred B and 2x256mb PNY PC-2700, and have a new Enlight 420W Power Supply en route from newegg, I guess my next upgrade will either be some PC3200 ram (if the new PS doesn't fix my stablility issues at fsb over 133) or a new video card to replace my original Geforce 3. Not sure if I will go Radeon 9500, 9600, 9700 or 9800 or if I stay with something Nvidia. Also waiting for one of my 3 17" monitors to die so I can pick up a 19".

Next upgrade will probably be a new hard drive. My brand new dual Opteron has only 16.8 GB of disk space! :Q My dual Tualatin has more than that!
