There is no K9, it was abandoned...
The quad cores are the K10 chips...

I have been wanting to upgrade, but I cant afford much. Was thinking of a 3200+ Venice, how good of an overclock could I get on this mofo?

I am going to try to make my current setup last a while. A64 2.5 GHz seems more than adequate for the forseeable future for me, so I'm going to try not to upgrade for a while. We'll see how successful I am. I may be upgrading video card or monitor, but I don't see a reason for CPU at this point unless x2 prices drop considerably or some killer app comes out that I use that needs dual core and/or significantly more CPU power than I currently have.

Im on the fence and I am going to wait for the new lower end X2 chips and hope they get decent overclocks. So the jury is out until then.

Prolly none of the above, might wait for an M2 (that's a socket, too).

Same here. But actually I go to college in 2 years. So my next purchase will probably be a Pentium M lol

Waiting for Conroe/Merom

Hmm...if that's true, maybe it would just be better to build a 939 X2 system within the next few months, and be satisfied with that for two years or so? I suppose it doesn't matter too much, since I'd have to buy a new motherboard either way, but at least if I went with a 939 system, I could keep my gig of PC3200 and probably add a second gig pretty cheaply (with how prices are these days)...I haven't looked at DDR2 prices but I imagine 2GB wouldn't be nearly as cheap as DDR1...

I'd say X2 if I were to upgrade now, but I don't expect to upgrade for another two years, who'll know what's nice by then.

That's pretty much what I intend to do. With the relatively low increase of overall speed increasing memory bandwidth gives, then I don't think I will bother to wait for DDR-II. When the bandwidth really is needed for desktop systems, I would guess DDR3 has been introduced (which most likely would require a new motherboard). It might be different for servers, but that's not really my concern 😛
