Core: 700 MHz (holy shiiiiiiiiiit)
RAM: 1.8 GHz (holy shiiiiiiiiit)

32 Pipelines. Almost turning into a joke. The 16 pipe high ends cards still cost $ 400 and up and now 32 pipelines at what cost?

Any way the R520 followed by the R515 and R530.

What will be the naming scheme of these cards, any one knows?

I hope there would be a 24 pipe $ 500 card moddable into a full 32 pipe, i can only hope.

They didnt. Some people just like to bash ATi for any reason they can think of.

No, I was making a joke about ATI recent problems getting video cards to market in a timely fashion. (e.g. X800XT PE, X800AIW)
(or at all, in some cases X700XT)

Although I see the logic in "buying American" to help keep my neighbors working, I also think ATI makes very good products and have always bought at least one of their flagship product for the last 10 years.

32 Pipelines.

Wow, those are the highest specs I've seen anyone claim for R520 thus far. You have a link?

Probably an X900 followed by an X950. I wonder what their next card will be named, Yxxx, Zxxx? They are running out of numbers unless they go with X1000.

700x 32 = 22400 fillrate

Compare that to:

X850xt pe = 16x540 = 8640
2x 6800Ultra = 16x400 x 2 = 12800
4x 6800Ultra = 25600

Clearly if you actually believe that R520 is roughly 3x faster than x850xt pe and almost as fast as 4 6800Ultra's, you live in a very happy world :)

Sure fill-rate isnt everything but generally videocard companies balance out complexity and gpu core speed. In other words, one reason why 5900 series were clocked higher than 9800 was because they were 4x2 instead of 8x1. Same reason why 6800Ultra is clocked lower than x800 series - because it is more complex (ie. SM3.0 + 222million transistors vs. 160). If these specs are right, Nvidia would need 2 G70s just to match 1 R520. Of course I doubt any consumer would mind, but this to me is too good to be true.

Also, looking at the Official Samsung website, the fastest commercially available GDDR3 right now is 1.25ns (rated at 1600mhz). LINK Therefore, even if by the time R520 is released, and 1800mhz ram is available (ie. 900mhz rated), it'll be far too costly to put on the card right away, and ATI simply wont have enough time to produce its cards by the time it's introduced (and it wont be available in the volumes they need). So the memory figure is again too high imo.

its specs like this that makes me think that theres no way Nvidia would release a 24pipe 430Mhz card as their high end.

even if it was very efficient i doubt it would make up for the 8 pipeline deficit and 270Mhz core difference

on the other hand it is specs like these that me me think, yeah sure......if they actually make it run that fast...hats off to them, and if they make enough to sell, and with out dual cascades as standard, ill have Ati's babies.

if they attempt it, we'll get like 2 on newegg, one will end up on ebay for $1000000 and that'll be it. and dell will secure a handful for some daftly priced XPS system with a Pentium D 840 EE. while nvidia takes control of the market with a much slower (in comparison) design, but a design that is actually produce-able in good quantity

exactly!! and 700Mhz on 90nm process is not a WOW thing when ATI were able to go 540MHz on 130nm.

they might drop the X. calling it X900 is like as though its just a slightly higher performing part than the X800 or X850 series.

we do not know nvidia's card will be a much slower design than ATI's. 24 pipes might just be able to keep up with the 32 pipe if their architecture is efficient.

It can also open a portal into another dimension.

That's true. Yxxx and Zxxx do sound lame. They may drop the Radeon name, but it would be more suited to do that when they make a DX10 card.

I haven't been to Seattle, hear it's nice.

It's a tough call on the buying American decision, for me anyway. If foreign products are better (e.g. Honda Accords vs Chevy Malibus) why should you reward the lesser craftsmanship.

On the other hand, when you keep the money in our economy the people getting it spend it here as well, providing others with work, keeping unemployment/crime down, property values up, all that good stuff.

I buy North American if at all competetive (Canadian first of course), but often things branded American or Canadian are really made somewhere else. I try to buy green in the sense of being made in places with some enviro and child labour controls.
