Putting together a Dell Vostro 400 with Intel® Core?2 Duo Proc E6550 (2.33GHz,4MB L2Cache,1333FSB
is it a good idea to go with the faster memory ?

What will the 800MHz buy me over the 667MHz?

I won't be overclocking it

worth spending the extra $$ ?

are u able to set the memory speed in the bios?
on my old Dell 8400 I couldn't change memory speeds so getting faster ram was a waste for me.

I Think with DDR2 667mhz you'll be fine.

Absolutely not.
Well, if it's $5 maybe, but the difference will be quite minimal.

If you are not able to change the FSB and/or the Memory Divider in BIOS (and I do not think you can do that in any OEM computer), it will be completely useless, and it might cause problems.

Not all the memory rated at 800MHz can run at slower speeds, and it might also require higher voltage, which in your case is un-adjustable, too.

Just get the RAM that the laptop is rated for, as the others said.

Good luck!

If you don't want to buy RAM from Dell, I'd suggest you pick a brand you like and check with that company to make sure you get compatible memory. In this case, as noted faster memory won't do you any good on a Dell. However, more memory will if you have applications that need it (like Photoshop) or if you multi task heavily.
