google seems to say it came from a crappy 1985 sci-fi movie and was popularized by one of adam savages t-shirts on mythbusters. but imdb can't confirm. anyone heard of it being attributed to anything else?
 
I think it's from a film; I remember seeing the original the other day but have since forgotten.... very frustrating!
