I was out of town working out in Philadelphia at the time it happened, working as a consultant. I was at the client site first thing in the morning, when I heard about it. I managed to get some live feeds through the internet, and basically watched it all day with the client. That night at the hotel a few of my coworkers and myself got together and watched coverage on the TV in the lobby. :(

i woke up, do what i normally did, which is sit down in front of the computer. i checked icq, and there was a message from some random person about praying for victims for some terrorism thing, which i ignored just like i ignore most of the multi-user spam on icq. then i loaded up mozilla, and the headline was "world trade center collapses" at which point i jumped up yelling, waking my roommate, and turned on the tv.

I was walking into my office. A co-worker told me that a plane had just struck the WTC tower. I got into my office and turned on FOX News. I didn't leave my seat for the rest of the day. :(

for some reason I was up early that morning. someone posted about the first plane and I thought it was some dumb pilot. then the second one hit, someone reported it and I went to watch TV for the next few hours until going into work.

It was my day off from working at Best Buy at the time, I was watching the Today show when Matt Lauer was interviewing some guy and he stopped in the middle of a sentence and said they just got word of a plane striking a building, he didn't know it was the WTC when he got the news.

Just got back from class when I had an IM from a buddy in Kansas City saying, "dude, turn on CNN- crazy sh1t is going down in NYC". I figured it was a massive outbreak of shark attacks, then I saw. Words don't describe the moments following. I immediately turned on the TV and woke up my roommate- we pretty much stayed glued to the TV for the entire day, and me throughout the next day too.

A bunch of people from work were at a meeting at a local hotel. During the first break I went outside for some air and a lady was standing there crying. She turned to me and said "Isn't it terrible?" I asked what she meant and she pointed through the window to the big-screen TV in the hotel bar. A few of us went in to see what she was talking about and found out. They cancelled the rest of the meeting and we stayed in the bar watching it for a few hours.

I was mostly asleep and making breakfast when my brother bolted out of his room and toward the stairs leading to the basement(where the home theater system is) and I asked him what he's going to do...he said in a kind of weird voice, "Watching them knock down the World Trade Center!" I was like..."WTF?" and went down after him. It was just a min. or two before the second plane hit.

I got to class early that day, and was working on my design project. My teacher smokes, so he went outside for a cig. He rushed back down seconds later and told us all that the WTC was on fire. So our whole class runs out to the parking lot (we are right across the Hudson from NYC), just in time to see the second plane hit the towers.

It really was surreal. No one could honestly get their minds around what was happening. I know the most emotional moment of that day for me was not when the towers got hit, or collapsed, or as the wounded came to the PATH station so we could tend to them. It was when we had just seen the first tower collapse, and the second one was still standing. A girl next to me (I don't know who she was, I probably never will) had her father working in the towers. She was desperately trying to call him, and nothing on campus would work. Our cell towers were on the top of the WTC, and our phone lines were jammed. Finally, she does get through, and you could see the hope on her face as it started ringing. Then, she just let out such a wail as she got the message that the cell phone was not in service.

I don't know what happened to her or her father, but that was the worst moment of the whole event.

We were quite busy that day. We ended up converting our field (which was a parking lot at the time) into a helipad, but only one helicopter ever came. I registered as being certified in first aid and a large group of us began turning the school gym into a triage center. However, we never got the wounded. The loss of life was just horrible. We never expected such a small amount of wounded to come out. It truly was a tragedy, that day. I still have a photo taken from my campus as my desktop.

I was in a 9 am meeting and we didn't find out until about 9:45 when the VP
s secretary called out the VP. I remember seeing her face and I thought something had happened to his family or something. Then the VP came back in and said 2 planes have hit the world trade center and one has hit the pentagon. We left the meeting and got to a TV in time to see the first tower collapse. then we saw the second one collapse. Then we heard about the plane going down a mere 80 miles away from Pittsburgh. Then the VP was like well we cant do anything, so lets go back to the meeting. I wsa like WTF! I called my Wife (gf at the time) and had to go back to the meeting. but i was checking my pager the whole time. Then we got out of the meeting at noon and I basically read ATOT and cnn for hte rest of the day before going home.

I was in my office when my team leader came into my office and asked me if I heard about a plane crashing into the WTC. I said no, but immediately went here to get more information. I believe LordJezo had the first post about the tragedy: Link Anyway, somwhere on ATOT I got a link to a video of the second plane crashing into the tower. I was shocked beyond belief when I saw it; how TERRIBLE. :(

Then, when I read about the south(?) tower collapsing here on ATOT, I couldn't believe it. I posted a followup ("What does "tumbling down" mean? Like, completely gone?!") and rickn confirmed it ("saltboy: the tower is GONE") Whoa... :Q

I had no TV or radio at home, so I left work when my supervisor let our group go home. What a day... :(
