What were the first five games you ever played?

Nintendo games, on some of the first consoles. Dont even remember the specific models, something like NES or super NES. We had family tournaments of Super Mario. Also played some crazy football game. Cant remember the rest.

My first PC games were mostly RTS games: AOE and its derivatives (Age of Mythology, Galactic Battlegrounds) Battle For Middle Earth RTS also. Then got into RPGs like KOTOR 1 and 2 and NWN and some of the original COD designed for PC shooters.

Edit: forgot Rise of Nations. Damn, MS (Ensemble studios I think it was) used to make some great RTS games

I'll start with Half-Life in December 1998.

Because that's the game that really started it for me. And I think for a lot of others too. We had Quake and even Doom before HL1. But those games were just shooters. You walk, you shoot, you find the keys, you find the exit. Nothing more to it. HL1 was different. There was a story. You encountered human NPC you could talk to. There were puzzles. Etc, etc.

Half-Life 1
SiN
Unreal
Quake 2

I played all of those games on an old laptop from work. In software-mode. 512x384. Only 8-15 fps. It was awesome ! BTW, SiN was really underrated. It was great fun, but had a bad start. And nobody mentioned it. I didn't like Q2 much. Too simplistic.

After playing those games, I wanted a PC at home. With a nVidia TNT2 Ultra. It was in anticipation of UT99 coming out later that year. But I think I bought:
Thief 1: Gold
before I actually bought Unreal Tournament.

Note, I did play Doom 1 in 1994 on a PC in our lab.
I did play arcade games in arcades in the eighties.
I played the original adventure on a PDP-11 in 1983.
And I did play Pong and others in the seventies.
But gaming as we know it, real 3D, first-person, networked, started imho with HL1.

First games ever were (I think) Hard Hat Mac, Captain Goodnight, Wings of Fury.

First memorable PC games: Big Mother truckers, Shogun Total War, Battlefield Vietnamn and Ghost Recon.

Assuming we're talking about PC games (x86), the earliest games I played were EGA 286 era games. Battle of Britain, 688 Attack Sub, Space Quest III, SimCity are about the earliest I can remember definitively although I'm sure there were other games and shareware I played that I can't think of.

I don't know if I can recall, but here are at least 3 of the first 5:
Pong on some sort of dedicated Pong box in the mid 1970's.
Pac Man on the Atari 2600, probably around 1977-79. It's too long ago to know for certain.
Space Invaders, Atari 2600, the same time as the above.

Pretty much exactly this. I seem to remember that the Pong box had a switch that would make it play a version of breakout as well. I would have to look up what game the Atari 2600 came with, that would probably be the next.

Where in the world is Carmen Sandego, Aces over the pacific, LHX, Wolfenstien, and Kings Quest 4.

Don't forget Mirlin, Coleco and Matel football.

Tank - Just some single game console with 4 joysticks for two players
Loot - Timex Sinclare 1000, blazing fast tape drive.
Various titles on a Atari 2600
Various titles on a Magnavox odyssey (Monkey Shines was the bomb with friends)
Various titles on the Ti 99, Another blazing fast tape drive.
I cant remember dates, Its all just a fog now.

Started playing in the middle of the 80's

The ones I remember

On Atari 2600:

Yars' revenge
Dodg'em

On PC

Beast (1984)
Qbert
Frogger
Golddigger
Styx (1983)

Oregon Trail
One of the kings quest games I could never figure out
Warcraft
Doom
Diablo

There may have been others in there but that's what I can remember. Duke Nukem and star craft are 2 others I remember fondly but I'm pretty sure SC was released around the same time as WarCraft 2 so that would have put it a bit later than the rest of the list.

Commodore 64, mid 1980s.

Probably....

Skyfox
F-15 Strike Eagle
Repton
MULE
Archon II: Adept
Grandma's House
Top Gun
Rogue Trooper

I remember some kind of Q-Bert clone (don't remember the name) and also some kind of Space Invaders clone.

There must have been more - we had stacks and stacks of floppy disks.

On just the PC...
Oregon Trail
Lemmings
Fallout
Starcraft
Rollercoaster Tycoon
Simcity has got to be in there somewhere.

I remember my cousin burned all these games onto some CDs when we got our first HP computer. Yup, younger me was a hardcore pirate.

I know many of you are old and your memories are going, but Pac-Man wasn't released until 1982 for Atari 2600. 🙂

Pong on the Magnavox Odyssey
Space Invaders, Asteroids, Pit Fall and Frogger for Atari 2600

NES, 1989+

Not the first games I ever played (there was some Atari before but can't remember which games), but these I started out with in the house.

Super Mario Bros / Duck Hunt
Legend of Zelda
Metroid
Final Fantasy
Super Mario Bros 3

I have no way to remember that really...

So let me offer up the top 5 I can think of (though 2 are systems):

Zaxxon
Oregon Trail
Odyssey Games
Atari Games
Pool of Radiance

I'm sure there were some in between but I've drank a lot since then.

On Tandy PC, 1991:
Reader Rabbit
F-29 Retaliator
Pete Rose Baseball
And at least a couple other games, including some golf game

Galaga somewhere in that time frame

Sega Genesis, 1993
Sonic the Hedgehog
Biohazard Battle
Sonic 2
Sonic 3
Sonic & Knuckles
Fifa '95

I know many of you are old and your memories are going, but Pac-Man wasn't released until 1982 for Atari 2600. 🙂
Crap, I was out of the house before 1982 and would have sworn I no longer had a game console. Evidently that was in college.

Do not remember names of most of the games, but here is some of the early ones.
All on C=64.

Pitstop
Bruce Lee
Aztec Challenge
Pirates!
Elite

Master System
Sonic (built in)

Genesis
Sonic 1
Toejam and Earl (2?)

PC
Chips Challenge
Transport Tycoon: Deluxe Edition

On the PC:
