10 w 30 from 20 to 80 F average temp spring summer fall most places
5w30 when avg temp is below 50 (winter)
or 10w30 synthetic {like Mobil 1} year round

straight 30 if you live where its Hot;like Egypt... ;) Brazil this time of year..

10W-30 is the all around general purpose oil that will work on just about every cars made in the past 15 years. I use Pennzoil, for the sole reason they use Pennzoil at Jiffy Lube.

It kind of depends on where you live. So you don' t have an owners manual, ok, look in someone elses, or check the dealer, or hey even look in an autozone type place, they have books with that kind of information in it. I doubt that anything that is close to 10w-30 is going to hurt, i.e. 5w-30, 10w-40 and so on, once again depends on what your weather conditions are.

Sometimes it says what weight to use on the cap on the engine block where you dump the oil in.

On older cars, some recommend heavier weight oil such as 10w-40, instead of the usual 10w-30 or 5w-30.

I am a Mechanic and if the car does not burn or leak a lot and it does not get REALLY cold then 10W30 Mobil (or any other name brand) will do fine.

My 88 Ford Thunderbird burns and I use 10W-30. What weight should I be using if my car is doing that? I had no clue that I should be using different weight when that happens.
