I'm looking to take a round trip flight from San Luis Obispo, CA to somewhere near New Haven, CT the weekend before thanksgiving. I tried Orbitz, but I'm not sure what the general consensus is on the big deal sites. What do sites do you use to book flights?

Last time I used Orbitz. My limited experience, the prices are pretty much the same between sites.

I use several of orbitz type sites to see what is available. I always book on an airline's website.

Expedia was the least expensive the last time I booked a flight, but I was booking a room as well. You could always use FareCompare to check for low cost flights.

Most of the big websites will be within $5-10 of each other. They are all reaching for the same databases.

Note that some airlines do not open up their databases; you have to go to their web sites.

Some airline web sites may be able to get you a slightly better deal than what gomes across the big ones (Expedia, Orbitz, HotWire, etc).

It is best to get an idea of the flight/price and then double check the airline itself.

All these websites have been great guys. It seems that it's always best to go direct, but these big search engines make things a LOT easier :) Thanks again.

I would stay away from Orbitz...nothing but bad experiences with them (as well as others, one of which has a website that I cant find at the moment detailing his experiences).

Same here. It's usually 10-15 bucks cheaper if you do it directly on the airline's site. From my experience anyway.

The big boy sites charges a $5-$15 handling fee that the airlines do not have on their sites.
