Could be sites that had a change in membership. Loss of supporters. Changes layout. Jumped the shark and and are now a sea of advertising. Ect. Are there sites you used to use heavily and are now dead to you?

For me the big ones are:

1) Woot. Once they dropped the "one deal a day" and turned into a portal site for a billion different other gimmics I stopped visiting.

2) Edmunds.com. In the last 6 months or so the site has become all but useless. It's now nothing more than a front end for dealers to try and push inventory. Getting meaningful reviews and information is an exercise in futility.

3) Sports.yahoo.com. Used to be a simple, easy to navigate layout. They did a series of layout changes over the last several months and it's horrible now. It's virtually unusable on a mobile device and trying to sift through ads to get "real" information is miserable. Terrible, terrible layout.

Advertising has really forever tarnished the 'web.

And has google cranked up the ad hits that it displays in the last few weeks? It seems like it takes several pages of returns before I find meaningul results. Everything else is advertising or links back to major sites with..surprise...more advertising!

I still hit engadget if for nothing more than headlines on things I could be interested in. It's usally bathroom browsing from my phone. I don't know the last time I visited it on a desktop computer. I'll read headlines and decide if I want to dig in any more.

answers.yahoo.com due to redesign. I used to like answering questions there (the ones I knew) but the new design is just unappealing. I notice the volume of questions being asked is down dramatically also.

Some people think that a site has to be redesigned periodically using the latest bells and whistles to stay "fresh". They don't stop to consider that perhaps it was just fine the way it was.

Also, I pretty much stop going to sites where the back button doesn't go back to the last screen I was looking at. Hate that.

Thank you face book and those "social site integrations" for that. That's what is cached in the "back" function. And yes it's annoying.

Woot's the only one I can think of, where I was dedicated to the site, but quit due to changes. There's other sites I quit going to, but I had much less invested as far as time and mind share goes.

Edit:
Christ, I just went to Woot for the first time in over a year. They somehow managed to make it even worse. It's a cluttered clusterfuck of bullshit. Way to ruin a site guys...

I've also given up on cnet but, to be fair, there was a three month period when all Anand talked about was mobile phones. CNN was a none starter.
