Just wondering what I should use. The OS doesn't really matter, it should carry at least 50mb of storage and decent monthly transfer. Uptime should be good.

And of course what matters most is price.... I'm hoping for something less than $5 a month ... so less than $60 - I'm hoping for even less than $40 if possible.

Are their any deals - or big name host companies "kinda, like the newegg of today?"

What do you currently use and do you like it?

I've used hostmysite.com but it seems too expensive.

Thanks!

rossman runs a webhosting company, so do I,

my package;
Basic Mayhem consists of 150MB of online storage 4.5gb of data transfer per month, unlimited E-mail addresses, domains and subdomains, forwarders, databases. Cpanel access... for 4.95 per month. 99.9% uptime.

RossMAN does not run a hosting company.

Rossman and narzy

I'll get in contact with you soon to discuss a possible bulk sale of domain names and space.

Yes it does. Most people will want Linux unless you need Windows ASP/.NET.

it should carry at least 50mb of storage and decent monthly transfer. Uptime should be good.

50MB/5GB should be a good starting point.

And of course what matters most is price.... I'm hoping for something less than $5 a month ... so less than $60 - I'm hoping for even less than $40 if possible.

Less than $40/yr right?

Are their any deals - or big name host companies "kinda, like the newegg of today?"

At NewEgg's level? Yes that would be Pair Networks but they're probably out of your price range.

HostPC.com or Telnap.com will offer the best bang for your buck.

300MB/5GB for $15/yr or 1400MB/20GB for $41/yr

What do you currently use and do you like it?

I currently use about 8 different web hosts. My favorites are HTTPme.COM and Idologic.com but they're a little out of your price range. Telnap.com and SonataWeb.net are two popular web hosts, I have accounts with both.

I've used hostmysite.com but it seems too expensive.

Never heard of them, then again there are thousands (millons?) of web hosts out there.

If you already have a domain registered I can offer you a free trial web hosting account on my Telnap.com resellers account. You can test out the speed/uptime/reliability.

This is really great!... I really needed the run down on what is out their. The quantity of web hosts made it confusing and difficult to choose from. I'm going to purchase the space within a few weeks and I really needed the insight.

As for the OS; It doesn't really matter to me. Linux is more stable but it seems to cost more.

Should be the opposite. Linux is open source so most distributions are free, unlike Windows which you need a license to operate.

Correct.

Linux = free

Microsoft = $$$

Clear?

Yes, clear. Another reason to not use hostmysite.com as they charge more for a linux route.

overly satisfied with sonataweb here

so much that I once took the daring plunge of reselling again.
As of last week, all of my website clients are hosted through me on my reseller account on sonataweb.

It's nice to hear from another happy SonataWeb.net customer. I'm still amazed that their $5.95/mo web hosting plan offers so much. Host up to 30 domains, 750MB/15GB with cPanel and Fantastico.

I know the owner Terry and he really cares about his business and clients.

I like moreweb.com hosting, but I got in on that $13 deal for the Domain and one year of service. What a killer deal :). Same company that runs Anandtech.

They don't run AnandTech (Anand does) but they do host the site/forums :)
