what wears out a PS2 faster? Games or DVD's?

id think it would be the same? Both cd/dvds are constantly spinning when playing, right? Or does the ps2 load a part of the game into onboard memory, therefor not having to access the cd as much as the dvd would stay spinning while watching a movie..? hmm good question lol!

If it REALLY concerns you that much, why not use a DVD player

Playing Escape from Monkey Island. ;)

I would expect there's a lot more random seeking involved in game-playing, so I would think that's the more intensive activity. However, I'm not sure what the cause of the laser-eye alignment problem that was symptomatic of first-generation PS2s was -- whether it was related to disc-spin mechanical vibration or if the optics were just prone to fall out of calibration.

I'd have to go w/ games for the reasons FeathersMcGraw posted, skipping back and forth has to be harder on a drive than reading in a linear fashion, just my 2¢ :)
