You got it backwards. The republicans wanted to fix the problem (most), the democrats did not. So Fanny targetting enough republicans to kill it. Your article pretty much says that

"in the end, there was not enough Republican support for Hagel's bill to warrant bringing it up for a vote because Democrats also opposed it and the votes of some would be needed for passage."

I thought we knew all along that Fannie and Freddie had nothing to do with our current problems??

See if we start to realize that Fannie and Freddie were a big problem then we have to look at the Democrats who ran Fannie and Freddie and the fact that many of them are linked to Obama's campaign, and we can't have that now can we??

legislation at the end of 2005/start of 2006 would have already been way too late, and would have only impacted a small part of the problem.
