I didn't think this would fit in P&N since I want to discuss how we would survive if gas prices reach this level.

So I saw this article on Drudge:
http://www.nysun.com/news/busi...-may-soon-cost-sawbuck
After reading this, it really got me thinking. If somehow gas prices reached over $200 a barrel, how would the common man/woman survive? For example, let's say gas prices are at $8 a gallon. I drive a Mazda 3, and it takes about 12 to 13 gallons to fill up. It would cost around $100 for a fill up, which is crazy to think about it. To go visit my folks, which is about 300 miles each way, It would cost me over $200 dollars round trip.
Now my wife and I aren't scrapping at the bottom of the barrel, but this would really affect us. She drives a Ford Escape, so her gas bill would be even higher. Also, I would think on how this would affect jobs. Would this force employers to really let people to start telecommuting a lot more?
I understand that in bigger cities you probably won't need to drive any more. I'm in the process of moving from Orlando to Tallahassee, and I'm still gonna drive around 8 miles each way to work. We have to drive to go anywhere, we just can't walk.
Discuss. Hopefully this isn't a repost, I searched.
