What wattage do I need for planned new system

I plan to build a new system. What wattage power supply will I need for:

?1) P45 or X48 Asus motherboard

?2) E8400 (will probably overclock to 3.6 to 3.8 range)

?3) 4 GB of DDR2 800 (2 X 2GB)

?4) 3 hard drives (two WD SE16 640s and one 250 GB for saving files)

?5) DVD burner

?6) two ATI 4870 (one at first but will crossfire later when I get a bigger monitor)

?7) 6 to 8 12cm fans.

I do not mind paying for a good PSU with more wattage than I need so I can have future upgrade ability and headroom so system runs great.


What wattage is recommended for the above components (also if you give a recommendation please not if it is minimum or good +buffer range)?

I'd say 750 Watt minimum is a good idea. I would personally go for 800-850 myself.

Corsair 750TX or BFG ES-800 would both be good for dual 4870 cards.
