What was your worst subject in high school?

I liked my English teachers, and classes were admittedly pretty fun most of the time, but I just have no talent for the discussion of novels and poetry. I didn't really think about the motivations of the characters, nor did I really care all that much. I was terrible at interpreting poetry as well. Don't even ask about my papers - my utter lack of ability to read in between the lines of a book really showed.

The thing is, I read quite a bit on the Internet - news, tech sites (like AnandTech :)), blogs, etc. I'm pretty sure my verbal skills aren't deficient (780 on the verbal section of the SAT in 1998). I don't know why I was so hopeless in English class.

French.

My school did a great job of making me hate English. Dissecting a book until you hate it is not a good way to appreciate literature. In regards to the punctuation and grammar aspect of it, only in recent years have I cared enough to give that stuff a look on my own.

English. I wanted to read for the sake of reading, not to rip the story apart and "analyze" it. :p

That, and my teacher was a staunch Catholic with some really messed up beliefs that just about got him fired.

PE was actually a class that I liked. A lot of goofy stuff happened and I had a good time. For example:

I remember playing indoor soccer one time my senior year. For my team I picked all my friends regardless of whether they were out of shape, fat, etc. Of course the other team ended up with all the jocks, and it looked like we'd get kiled.

But that didn't happen.

In the first half, I managed a perfect pass to this guy on my team (a chubby kid that not many people liked) and he booted it right into the goal. It was a perfect shot and the goalkeeper was shocked. Us 1, Jocks 0. Our defense was extremely aggressive and somehow the jocks couldn't keep the ball under control.

In the second half the chubby kid managed to get the ball into the opposition's half of the field. He passed it to me and I scored a goal. Us 2, Jocks 0. By this time they were really frustrated and loosing it. I told my defense to play as dirty as possible, and the Jocks just could not score a goal.

We won :D

My whole time in hs, math was a big pain for me. I was in all honors classes, getting decent grades, but I would have to put in for tutoring just to pass math. The big shocker was halfway through chemistry, when it turns into MATH. I was a good student up until there. I just gave up & packed it in.

I had a 93% average at one point during my grade 12 year with the exception of math...I just passed math. I was accepted to the Canadian school with the highest acceptance standards.

Hands down the worst class was all of the maths. I love to make speeches and discuss english, but focusing and doing weird problems that you will never need to replicate in your life seems pointless. So why take such crap math classes?

I'm with the OP except I didn't like my English teachers. They were all gay men - and though there's nothing wrong with that, they weren't just regular people who happened to be gay... they were the anorexic, effeminate type with chips on their shoulders about heteros. All of them :frown: I enjoy reading, not too fond of writing, and did well enough on the verbal portion of the SATs to conclude that I'm above average in the subject... yet I routinely got C's in it.

because if you end up in engineering the math you learn can be very applicable... especially since its rudimentary high school math.

Math
Not because it's hard, but because you get lots and lots of homework everyday consistantly. I hate spending a long time doing the same types of problems over and over and over.

definitely math for me. I excelled in English, Spanish and all science courses, but I was indifferent towards history, and hated math with a passion. I still do, in fact. It's odd, because I can do simple math in my head reaslly quick, even "tougher" simple math, like figuring out mile paces and splits while on a run, or fractions, but as soon as I get into algebra, I just get moronic.
