What was your opinion of Audi 10 years ago?

Inspired by this thread Why nobody likes Infiniti

I'm making the following poll. Would you have considered buying an Audi 10 years ago. In other words before the A4 came out.
I remember telling a lot of people about the A4 and how European reviews kept saying it was in the same league as the 3-series. No one believed me until Audi started selling it here.

Nowadays many people consider Audi to be in the league as BMW and MB. Besides making good cars, was it also good marketing?

***Would you have considered buying an Audi 10 years ago***

Sure. I liked them 30 years ago and still do. The crap CBS showed about unintended acceleration was driver error. The 80 and 90 Series were good cars. The new S6 is going to kick butt.

A former friend of mine's brother had an Audi which was always parked in their driveway.

Why?

Electrical problems, gee who'd have thought?

😀

I?ve liked Audis since I saw them kick a$$ in SCCA racing I think it was 10-15 years ago. Out of my price range though. 🙂

Audi does look good. Very classy and stylish and not too sporty and flashy. But I already have a passat, no reason for me to get basically the same car w/ different shell. I probably would go for BMW/Benz/Infiniti/Lexus instead.

I drive a 1990 100S, and before that a '93 90S, and other than their stupid naming conventions for models I haven't had any major problems. They're like any other car, they need attention from someone who knows what they're doing. Plus my 13 year old car is more solidly built with more features than most cars made today.

what he said. :Q😀

loved our 4000s. electrical problems, yes, but bulletproof engine and drivetrain. car didn't rust, either, except on the hood where rock chips got to it.

Definitely less than my opinion of them now, that was tarred by an experience my parents had with an Audi though, they used to have a 1987 Audi 100 CD, it seemed like a nice car but they had endless problems with it, including most of the electrics failing and having to get a whole new engine just after the warranty ran out.

I'm sure they are better now, but my Dad certainly won't ever be getting an Audi again.

If anything I might have been more inclined to support them then, after 60 Minutes nearly killed them in this country with their yellow journalism about "sudden acceleration". They are nice cars and I would buy one, in any event.
