Mine involved attaching a "cold air intake". I made a cardboard duct going to the cpu from the back fan (fan turned toward cpu) and attached a small pvc pipe to the back of the computer, long enough that it took in the cold outside air. the room would reach temps of 40 degrees f because i had the window open...lol
 
stupid old compaq that needed drive rails. used paperclips instead of paying ~60-70 for a set of rails.

oh yeah, and using rubberbands and twist ties to keep a cpu fan on

I never use 4 because then when I wanna remove or change the setup I have to open both sides of the case and it adds another unnecessary couple minutes to the job.
 
I had an old HP, 300mhz K6-2. I had a lot of issues with the mobo so I ripped it out, put a removable window on the side, and use it as a soda cabinet in my room 🙂
 
my roommate's powersupply was too small for his case. it wouldn't sit properly, and he didn't have any kind of adapter to screw it into place... I helped him use masking tape to keep it in place 🙁
 
I hacked an ATX 20 pin power plug to an ATX 24pin power supply, with butt connectors - still running it to this day!

using cardboard boxes to hold the mboard,instead of a case,
for 4 different setups,running Seti@home. 🙂

Got cat5 cables running from one room to another,all over the floor,in 2 unsued bedrooms,where I had the seti "farm" going.
Still have a bunch of mess there,
only running 2 puters doing seti now,becasue the electric bill got tooooo high. 🙁
