What was your most agonizing event ever?

Inspired by that good sensations thread

Well, two ring in my head, both involving hockey.
In college, I was skating after a puck behind my goalies net and I slipped and fell into the boards. I hyper-extended my elbow. That hurt really bad and till this day (10 years later) my elbow still locks up occasionally.

But the worst ever was playing roller hockey (with an oil filled ball). It starts like this. I always wear a cup. Guess where this is going... I always wear a cup, but this one time I forgot it and figured, it's just roller hockey. I was playing forward and I was probably 5 feet away from this guy at the point and he was taking a slap shot. I faced straight at him so if his intent was to hit the net, he'd hit my legs. The guy somehow managed to take a slap shot from 5 feet away into my right baby maker. I literally crawled to my car after the game not to mention I was laid out for about 10 minutes. I got home 2 hours later and my buddy was about 5 times as big as normal. I couldn't move without pain for 2 days. I didn't leave my bed for 48 hours. The pain lasted about a week and man, that is a day I will not forget soon.

Cliff Notes: roller hockey (oil filled ball) plus my right child maker = 48 houres of pain.

Imagine having a migrane, or a really bad sinus headache, more or less non-stop, for 3 months. I have a shunt as a result of my hydrocephalus, and that's pretty much what happens when the shunt quits working. Fortunately, it's only happened once, when I was in gradeschool. Ouch ouch ouch...

Other than that, it's just the normal "meeting of the balls" type of stories :p

hmm

when i was 17 or so, i was out riding my '85 CR80. my buddy had an '84 and we tore up the fields and backroads a few times a week.

long story short - going down a dirt road with fresh gravel, took a curve going a little too quick, bike started to slide. panicked, locked up front brakes, flew over the handlebars and did a faceplant into the road and slid partially into the ditch. open-faced helmet and no gloves!!

not for the queasy: both my palms were skinned to the bone. my face had quite a bit of gravel stuck in it, especially my chin and nose. i was unconscious for a moment laying half in and half out of the ditch with my bike laying on the side of the road. in shock, i came to and picked up my bike and began walking it down the road. my buddy Shawn had pretty much wiped out watching me wipe out, and he approached me with a look of shock on his face. all he could say was, "uh, holy sh1t Jay holy sh1t holy sh1t we have to get you help", etc. then i realized how badly i had been hurt. after that, i dropped my bike and looked at my hands and kinda starting weeping a bit.

we walked to a farmer's house which was essentially right on the bend and walked up onto the porch. when the old guy came to the door, he didn't seem like he wanted to let us in!! there was a lot of blood and he had a nice place. but, he emerged with a wet towel and led me into his bathroom where he turned the hot water on and filled the sink. i remember him telling me to wait while he left the bathroom for a second, and i saw myself in the mirror. my face was messed up pretty bad - i mean, we're talking something out of a slasher flick here.

the old guy returned with a box of salt and dumped it into the sink. he sort of matter-of-factly said, "dunk your face in it." he had said something about having to do it to get some of the gravel and dirt out of my face. i remember slightly weeping as i lowered my face to the water, watching my blood drip down into the murky solution. i submerged my face in the water and my knees went weak. i didn't quite pass out from the agony, but almost.

when my Dad showed up to bring me to the hospital, he didn't show much sympathy actually - it was all tough love on the 45-minute drive to the hospital. i sat in the back seat holding my hands out in front of me making an "uhhhh" noise once in a while. ended up getting 4 stitches on the side of my nose and 5 on my chin. not bad really. my wrist was fractured (still cracks to this day) and i had a plethora of facial wounds including my upper lip which swelled out at least another inch from my face.

i went to school the next day too. ugh.

Wow, that is horrible. Normally, you don't have any headaches though? I'd ratehr have my big ummmm boys than a 3 month headache. I feel for you.

mine would probably be the time I got a violent stomach flu and was throwing up every 15 minutes for 6 hours. It got to the point where I had to force something into my stomach to keep myself from throwing up bile (extremely painful).

PS. Meltdown, your bada$$ because you went to school the next day :)

Nope. no headaches - that's what the shunt is for: The pressure that creates the headache comes from a buildup of fluid, which a properly-working shunt prevents. as long as the shunt works, all I get are run of the mill headaches - sinuses, too much noise, etc.

And the 3 months bit was an unusual circumstance; it normally wouldn't be nearly that long before a doctor caught something.
