What was your first Apple computer?

In memory of Steve Jobs, the guy who helped bring us the Mac, and just about everything else worth using.

The first Apple product my family owned was a Macintosh LC, circa 1990. My dad's work bought it for him to do CAD drawings at home. Had a blistering fast 16mhz Motorola 68000 series processor. Used to mow through Kid Pix like mad on that thing. My dad later had his own business so we had a few Macs.

First Apple product I used was an Apple ][GS. Anybody born in the mid-80s will remember school computer labs being full of these.

Apple hardware my family had growing up
-Macintosh LC
-Macintosh LC III
-PowerMac 6100
-PowerBook 1400
-Motorola StarMax (a Mac clone)
-Couple LaserWriters

Apple hardware I've personally owned
-iBook G4 1.33ghz 12'' model
-MacBook Unibody (Late 2008) 2.0ghz Core 2 Duo
-iPhone 3G
-iPad 1
-iPod 5th Gen (second hand, broken, currently refurbishing)

first one i bought was a late 2007 15" macbook pro, 2.2ghz c2d, 8600GT 128MB, 2GB (upgraded myself to 4GB), 120GB 5400rpm hd (upgraded to 200GB 7200rpm), 1440x900 matte. amazing computer at the time.

currently on the mbp in my sig. pretty much the best/fastest computer ive ever owned.

PowerBook G3 Lombard was the first, but it barely worked (got it used), next up was the original MacBook. 1.83GHz, 512MB RAM, 100GB HDD, Combo Drive. That thing was amazing, I still miss it.

A PowerBook g4 12" 1GHz replaced it, followed by a 1.33GHz 12". Then, the latest system is what is in my sig, 1.4GHz, 4GB 11" MacBook Air. Best Mac I have had the pleasure of using. I can only imagine how much nicer the Sandy Bridge version is.

Mac SE I bought in 1987.

9" B&W Screen;
8 MHz 68000;
4 MB RAM (Upgrade from standard 1 MB);
20 MB HD;
800k floppy drive;
Extended Keyboard;
ImageWriter II.

All for the low, low price of about $3,500 at the Student Store.

Here's my full Apple history, if you care to read:
My first was a Macintosh Performa of some sort - can't remember which model. It was picked up off the street about eight years ago, along with an Apple monitor and printer. Sadly, it was destroyed in a flood about seven years ago, along with a Korg keyboard my dad was planning to hook up to it and use it for some music stuff.

Later on, my dad found a Macintosh Classic on the side of the road and brought it back to me. I was surprised to see it boot, complete with lots of sensitive info and Tetris! If only I could have gotten it online...it had to go after a later flood to clear up room, still working. 🙁

Next up was an iMac G3, the summer 2000 DV special edition to be exact. It too was by the curb ready to be taken away (notice a pattern here???). It was a chore to get OS 9 installed and update the firmware to install Tiger, but I did that and upgraded the RAM and hard drive. Still working great to this day!

Later on, I got my hands on another roadside Mac, this time a 1GHz eMac. It was a heavy beast but was great, much faster than the G3 iMac and even ran Leopard nicely up until it decided to blow a whole bunch of capacitors on the logic board.

I had a top of the line 14" iBook G4 for a while (long story, but it was a nice machine) and my latest acquisition is a lampshade iMac G4, my favorite of all. It was wheeled into the computer store by a customer, I gave him $50 and he gave me a 700Mhz machine with all the original CDs and a perfect Apple keyboard and mouse. I boosted the RAM and installed Leopard and it's sweet. Again, it doesn't get booted much but it's great to look at.

They really don't make them like they used to.

Knockoff: Zeus clone of Apple ][+

Had a 16 KB RAM card and an 80 column card. Had to solder a wire or two to the keyboard, to get lower case chars.

12" Powerbook, 1.5 GHz, 1.25 GB RAM.

I occasionally use it even though a 13" Macbook Pro is my primary machine.

Let's see, I first bought a used PowerBook 170 in 1995. I paid something like $300 for it from a Mac store here in LA. It was actually a pretty nice little laptop for the time.

Then I bought a Centris 610 at a fleamarket around 1996- I can't remember what I paid for it.

I had a PowerBook G4 550, pretty much the one and only Apple branded Mac I've ever bought brand new.

Someone gave me an iBook about two years ago after I helped them upgrade to a newer system.

That's my entire 'real' Mac history. I've only otherwise owned Mac clones back in the day (Umax and Motorolla) and more recently Hackintoshes.

A few times when I've gotten the urge to buy an Apple computer, I've bought that much more Apple stock instead.

If you want to kick yourself over how much you would have in the bank today if you had done so rather than whatever Mac you bought, peep this: http://kyleconroy.com/2010/04/apple-stock

First one I had an Apple Macintosh Performa 6300CD then got a PowerBook G4 15 inches last May. Last month I finally got a MacBook Pro...Also I have owned iPhone 3G and 3GS.

When I was growing up we had an Apple ][+, with a whopping 48K of RAM and a 5.25" floppy. We also got a Mac 128K when those first came out.

Personally, I've had a Mac IIci, one of the lime green G3 iMacs, a G4 iMac, an '07 Macbook Pro, an '09 Mini, and a late '10 27" iMac.

Anybody born in the 80s probably did. School computer labs were always crammed with them. First I used was probably an Apple ][GS. All the software came on 5.25" floppies. Had two drives. One for program, one for saves. Guess they had no internal storage. They had educational games like Carmon SanDiego on them, and some kid friendly word program.

I actually never really used Windows until the late 90s.

My parents had a joystick for their LC, with a very early version of MS Flight Simulator.

Apples only clone computer in the 80s, i think it was called laser. Then many other products that im too lazy to mention.

My first Macintosh is a 27" iMac i5 3.1ghz (2011).

Ive owned PC for years and years, with maybe 10x the Windows 95, XP, Vista, 7 seat time than i do OSX. Already i vastly prefer Mac over PC. So i am no fanboy, but, that wont stop my fanboy dad, who has never in his life used a Mac to 1.) choose PC blindly and 2.) call me a fanboy.
