I didn't get to play much with them, they were banned in my neighborhood. But one time my friend showed me a pickle-o pete hammered into a 2 liter coke bottle.

Booom!

the only mod I ever saw when I was a kid was putting a minicicciolo
miniciccioli.JPG

inside an empty stylus pen ink cartridge with the top torn off, it was a perfect fit

that made the bang louder.

My favorite was having an M-1000 for fools who messed with me with their M-80s. You can only buy them certain places in Baja and sneak them back across the border. As a kid we had cherry bombs without fuses called torpedoes that would explode when they hits something like a wall or a shoe.

No mods were necessary. A 6" or 8" mortar and a repaired dud from a real fireworks show will liven up the neighborhood at 2 in the morning. Of course these endeavors were done by me several decades ago, today someone would call the cops :(

Dry ice bombs were my favorite. loud as hell and fun. but I have not done them in a few years of the fear of getting locked up for manufacturing a explosive device.

I am 45 and never seen a M-80 in my life. wish i did though because i really like loud fireworks.
REAL M-80s were hard to come by after they got a reputation. (copycats) The market got flooded with lesser M-80s because the name wasn't trademarked. (or the Chinese just ripped off the packaging, etc so you couldn't tell)

I've know an adult in the last 10 years that lost half of his middle finger from the knuckle because he couldn't throw one fast enough (had his fist clinched around it). The older ones probably would have taken all his fingers.

I have 2- 22" naval cannons. They are fun because they pretty much blow away any 'loud' firework' anyone sets off. :D

When I was a kid didn't really have fireworks since it's always been illegal here.

Most powerful fireworks were banned in 1966.
You can make your own with cannon fuse, pill bottles and gun powder, although it is likely a federal crime.

I can't count the number of M-88's/silver salutes I blew up as a kid. Throw them in trash cans for a hell of a "PANG!". They made pretty neat noises if they blew up in the bucket of a back hoe. We used to use sling shots and shoot them at old rotton melons and cantelope from the garden. Good times.

No mods, just lots of 'splosions!

I still enjoy the firecracker poked into an aluminum can setting in a little tray of water. Turns the can into a pretty cool little rocket. :|

I wish fireworks were legal here. :( Went down south on a family trip, they were selling them everywhere, so I figured they were legal there and bought a box. Found out the hard way that they were not. Well, no cops involved, just some guy threatening us, but we were done the whole box by that time.

I once knew a guy who made Oxyacetylene big-bangs. He take his cutting torch and fill up 30 gallon plastic trash can liners, put them in an empty dumpster, take a newspaper and roll it up a roll of Christmas paper, bend it in the middle, hang it over the dumpster and light the outside part and scurry off to establish and alibi. The fire would lighten the outside portion of the bent paper as it burned and eventually the inexpensive fuse would fall in to the dumpster burn through a plastic bag and kabomb, cops, sirens, more cops were everywhere, every time he pulled that stunt and never got caught. he would play that little number. Some friends, were partying after a motorcycle race and we got a demonstration. I was acting as a designated driver, we stopped at a McDonald's (Good Alibi) while the crazy guy gave us demonstration using a dumpster at the back of the grocery store. We saw his welding truck come out and just as he parked at the Mickey D's - well people came out of the grocery store, the windows rattled at the McDonald's a people went outside to see where the plane crash. There really isn't any evidence except the burned newspaper and shards of plastic bags.
