Trick I used to use on cashiers.

Give them a ten and ask for a 10 ones. This confuses them to no end.

Pick up the 10 ones, then put them down saying "nah, 5 dollar bill and 5 ones are fine"

Pick up the 5 bill + the 5 ones, plus your original 10 and just ask for your original 20 back.

Works like a champ. Heck you can make a living on this simple trick alone.

Ah, change-racing.

I prefer this one, but it counts on the cashier taking your stack of ones and handing you a ten simultaneously.

Give them "ten ones" which is actually a stack of 9 ones and a ten.
They give you a ten. Stealthily pocket it.
They see 9 ones + ten = $19
Pull out another one, add it to the pile and ask if you can just get a twenty instead.

Profit!

ya i'll testify too. I was a cashier and when you are ringing up people all day, you tend to just put yourself on autopilot.

That works as well!

The brain hiccup the cashier has doesn't compute. They just keep doing what they normally do.
