what was this bird?

so, I was driving down a back road today heading into princeton and on the opposite side of the road, I noticed like 3-4 birds that were about goose-sized, but pitch black.

any ideas? can't say I can ever recall seeing a bird like that before.

did they have feathered necks and heads? if not then vultures.

hooked beaks? raven maybe or some type of hawk.

did they have fan tail feathers ? probably turkeys.
