I see deals for $250, and I might spring for this. Good phone?
Worthy 2014 upgrade from the G2 of 2013?

Good phone with decent battery life yet some guys still bitch on about how it's too big for their girly hands.

Definitely a worthy upgrade from a G2.

Best bang for the buck smartphone on the market for PC type tinkerers.. meaning it's fully unlocked and able to be flashed with various ROMs and kernels out of the box and used on pretty much any network.

Great power, excellent screen (once you install color calibration APP), and android 6 is pretty nice. I hope they don't start reducing screen sizes in the future due to demand... I'd take a 6.5 inch screen version if they made one at this great of pricepoint but I'll be happy with this for a couple years...

I should have ordered another one for $200... I was sitting home on black friday around 1AM and was on amazon and saw it at this price... stupid me... would have made great stocking stuffers. Anyways we have 4 lines on cricket wireless with various phones.. hopefully can find a 5th one at some point since it's essentially "free"...

I've scaled back from 6" to 5" phone... maybe if you never had this big, you'll like it for year or two.

I still prefer the LG G4 form factor except for the button on the back.

However the Nexus 6 is awesome when it comes to media consumption or even reading news.

The battery was a step down from the Nexus 5 per Anandtech and the N5 wasn't all that great in battery to begin with.

To be fair though, the battery life improved quite a bit with each new Android release. I would say with 6.0 and up the battery life is now excellent.

I would say 5.0 was first a step down from 4.4 in terms of battery, and 6.0 brought it back to where it was in terms of standby drain.

However once you factor in Doze, yeah 6.0 definitely pulls ahead, but keep in mind Doze is a sacrifice in functionality.

I keep hearing that but I don't feel like I have lost any functionality. I still get the notifications I am used to getting. My Pebble still works fine. I'm not sure what exactly I have lost. I don't say that trying to be condescending, I just don't see much of a difference.

I loved the knock on/off for the screen on my G2. Is this feature available on the 6/6P? Does it work as well?

It's not available on the 6, at least with the standard ROM. I know some custom ROMs have a double tap to wake feature.

It's app dependent. Some apps have their notifications set as GCM High Priority which gets around Doze, but at the same time that supposedly isn't to be abused.

So other apps like GroupMe don't come in and I get a flood of messages only after I pick up my phone. Also supposedly what I've read about Doze is that it still periodically checks for messages. First 1 hour, then 2 hours, 4 hours, so on. That's obviously fine when I sleep but not if I just put my phone down on the table at the office.

Furthermore, I think the point is even without Doze, why is standby drain an issue? Perhaps Google should focus on fixing that first.

If you love Android, you'll love the Nexus line. You'll get OS updates for near eternity. Even the Nexus 4 still gets 5.1.1. My stupid work issued HTC One M8, is still on on 5.0.1. They say 6 is coming, but by the time it's on it, 3 months later 7 is available for the Nexus line. Unfortunately the 6 is probably the worst phone in the 4,5,5x,6,6p lineup, but at $250 it's your choice. I wouldn't get it... unless you carry a fanny pack or a purse.

I'm the opposite. I am used to the back buttons on the LG G4, and whenever I use a phone with buttons along the edge I hate it as I always seem to hit the power or volume buttons. The Nexus 6 is a great phone on sale if you like the size of it. Myself I won't buy a phone that won't fit in a snack bag sized Ziploc bag, the Nexus 6 is just a touch too big for me to carry when I'm out doing activities like running or mountain biking.

If the size doesn't bother you you'll probably love the Nexus 6.
