I see deals for $250, and I might spring for this. Good phone?
Worthy 2014 upgrade from the G2 of 2013?

I've scaled back from 6" to 5" phone... maybe if you never had this big, you'll like it for year or two.
The battery was a step down from the Nexus 5 per Anandtech and the N5 wasn't all that great in battery to begin with.Good phone with decent battery life yet some guys still bitch on about how it's too big for their girly hands.
Definitely a worthy upgrade from a G2.

I would say 5.0 was first a step down from 4.4 in terms of battery, and 6.0 brought it back to where it was in terms of standby drain. To be fair though, the battery life improved quite a bit with each new Android release. I would say with 6.0 and up the battery life is now excellent.

However once you factor in Doze, yeah 6.0 definitely pulls ahead, but keep in mind Doze is a sacrifice in functionality.
I loved the knock on/off for the screen on my G2. Is this feature available on the 6/6P? Does it work as well?
It's app dependent. Some apps have their notifications set as GCM High Priority which gets around Doze, but at the same time that supposedly isn't to be abused.I keep hearing that but I don't feel like I have lost any functionality. I still get the notifications I am used to getting. My Pebble still works fine. I'm not sure what exactly I have lost. I don't say that trying to be condescending, I just don't see much of a difference.
I still prefer the LG G4 form factor except for the button on the back.
However the Nexus 6 is awesome when it comes to media consumption or even reading news.
