I think Jinny is right. I found this when I did a web search:

The first widely used web browser was NCSA Mosaic. The Mosaic programming team then developed the first commercial web browser called Netscape Navigator, later renamed Communicator, then renamed back to just Netscape. The Netscape browser led in user share until Microsoft Internet Explorer took the lead in 1999 due to its advantage in being bundled with Windows operating systems. An open source version of Netscape was then developed called Mozilla, which was the internal name for the old Netscape browser, and released in 2002. Mozilla has since gained in market share, particularly on non-Windows platforms, due to its open source foundation.

Depends what you consider a browser.... the first to display graphics, was Mosaic i'm pretty sure. There were others before it, but they were purely text.

I remember lynx. Was back in '95 during my freshman year in college that I discovered it. I missed out on the whole Mosaic thing, but yes, that should be the first web browser...

You're right, although most people wouldn't equate Lynx with "the internet as they know it". :)

Mosiac...which kicked much ass!

The first time I used Mosaic to surf the Web, it was like opening the door of the gray, dusty farmhouse and stepping out into the gorgeous Technicolor beauty of Munchkinland!

Whatever was created at CERN in the early 1990s by Tim Berners-Lee (and others). I don't recall the name.

NCSA's Mosaic

I remember using version 1 and going "Wow this is cool, it's like a worldwide BBS with no long distance".
