What was the most overclockable CPU ever?

You so completely left out the P4 1.6A, those very regularly hit 2.4, on stock cooling, and many made it up to even 2.8+ IIRC.

Just about any DLT3C XP1700+ or 1800+ is capable of 1GHz overclock, if other system components can handle the overclock.

what do stock 1700s and barton 2500s get in pcmark for the cpu.....i know they end up in 7000's when 11x200...similar to a p4c 2.4 @ 3.0
the 2.4c at stock gets high 5000s in pcmark

i did a bench at my p4c at 3.3 and it got 8000's

i forget what 2.4c@3.5+get

I think for newer chips, Socket 370, A and 478 all have relatively good overclocks. But i would also have to say the 1700+ , some 1800+ could take 1ghz perfectly cool, stable and on respectable voltages.

1.6a was a good one too, i remember seeing some good 600-800mhz overclocks.

my first wouldnt OC for $hit. 1.6 @ 2.2, after a while i ran it at 2.0 for stability

You are missing 6502 on that list.

Base speed: 1MHz. Someone in my dorm building in college managed to run one at 50MHz for 45 minutes before it died. That's a 5000% overclock.

Celery 300 also OCed better than anything on that list.

The best OC I ever owned was a Celermine 566 that would hit 1.1GHz. 100% OC, and I've seen some that reached toward 1.2.

I think you are forgetting the Celeron 500 or 566...i can't remember which one it was. anyways, it OCed to over twice its stock speed. i think it was roughly a 120% OC. while a 600MHz OC isn't a big deal these days, percentage wise, it was the best OCer ever i believe. therefore i shall not cast my vote and skew the results of the poll b/c the best OCer isn't on the list.

the p4 2.4@533 is probably the best thing since sliced bread... value wise and performance wise....

people are hitting 3.0 ghz - 3.2ghz with stock cooling - right out box vern! ASUS or ABIT is the only way togo

Yet I am a Celeron-Tuallie 1.2 ghz @1.5ghz on an Abit BF6-mobo I just have cheap ram... I could do 1.65 easily with better ram... I just don't need that kinda speed and I am not sure too many people do... But, hey what are gonna do... everyone has a need for speed... Jedi II outcast - plays well ,,,

Yeah!!! My 1.6a did 2.74ghz with 1.71v and still runs to this day at 2.6 or above (14 months later)...I think it needs to be in there....

I think it's not just a case of how far a CPU will overclock but also the ease with which you can overclock it.

A more interesting way of looking at it would be which CPU overclocked the most (% wise) out of the box with stock cooling and no voltage tweaks, just upping the FSB. Hence great for the beginner, which we all were at some point.
